Superman / Batman #32 - DC

This is an interesting story. Something is tapping in to the psyches of all the aliens on earth, and feeding off their fears and anxieties. It's convincing them that they are not like the people of earth. And that the people of earth neither like them, or want them. So then it's gathering them all together and preparing for an invasion. It also has something to do with the black crystal that Superman had in his fortress. Luthor had sent Batman and Plastic Man to retrieve it. But to do so, Plastic Man had to let it possess him. Luthor snatches Plastic Man away from Batman, and basically runs him through the rinse cycle, over and over again, until he can get the crystal out of him for his own possession. We don't really know why yet, though. Batman is fighting Superman, trying to convince him that his thoughts are deceiving him. But he's not listening. So in order to save himself, he allows himself to be possessed by the crystal. During that process, Superman starts to doubt himself, because he's still feeling his remorse over loosing Lois. So he goes to say goodbye to her. Of course Lois lectures him, and ends up bringing him out of his hypnotic thrall. But it's to late for Batman. Now he's fighting Superman at his own level. Supergirl however, breaks her own hypnosis because it's interfering with the programming she received when she was sent to earth. But she's out of commission for the time being. The issue ends with the citizens of earth, viewing the invasion fleet, and then a storm of meteors, actually the black crystals, blanket the earth. Jimmy picks one up to check it out, and is immediately possessed. How can they possibly fight this? We won't find out this issue. Fabulous story by Mark Verheiden and Matthew Clark. It also has a stunning cover by Phil Jimenez.
