The weirdness is following Ryan to China. We get a little history lesson this issue about Ryan Choi's college life. Actually High School, but that's what they call it there. There was a girl, Jia, there always is. And there was a bully, Alvin. Jia ended up marrying Alvin, to save Ryan's life. She agreed to marry him, to stop Alvin from beating him to death. But Alvin is the one who ended up dead. And he's telling Ryan that Jia did it. So he says that he's stuck here until he gets revenge. The revenge on Ryan is for getting him expelled from school. For plagiarism. Ryan was forced to do his homework for him, so he started giving him plagiarized work. What was he going to do? Tell? Now Alvin wants to kill them both. Which is where the story started. Jia was in fear for her life, but couldn't find anybody to help her. So she called Ryan, and asked him to come home. Of course he did, without hesitation. So now he's at the hands of Alvin, and his 2 friends Eddie and Qianfan. They're also deceased. And they're all ready to tear Ryan apart. I think Gail Simone is doing a great job capturing the feel of this book, and it's characters. And I think our new artist, Eddy Barrows, also has the right feel for the book. I always liked the Atom, but I've never really followed his exploits until this series. I like what I've seen so far. The weirdness factor is a little off the charts. But that's ok. So far. It looks like we're going to find out something about Ray Palmer soon. So we'll have to see what happens then.
