This issue wraps up the Adolph Hitler story-line. And he makes Paulus, the guy who sent him back, pay. Really, it was all a set-up. Paulas said that he was doing it for altruistic reasons. He wanted to make the world a better place. He said he only implanted the bomb so that the MidNighter wouldn't be deterred. But, actually, Paulus father was about at the same level as Adolph. But Adolph made the first move and began ascending in power. However, if he could be stopped, Paulus' father would move in to the vacuum, and by the time it all played out and changed the future, Paulus would probably rise to the king of the world. Well the MidNighter figures this out, and before going back to the future, abducts the young Paulus and, with him sleeping, holds him as hostage in front of the present version. He still ends up killing the present Paulus, but he sends the younger one back so that he'll still be alive to take care of him in the present. At the end, he's pretty much decided that his fate is simply to dispose of the world's trash. Fabulous story by Garth Ennis and Chris Sprouse. What a great first story arc. I can't wait to see where he goes next.
