Ok, now that the Richards have returned from across space, they're trying to resume their normal lives. Yeah . . . . like that's gonna happen. This story arc is focusing around an evil alchemist from the 16th century, in Milan. He's trying to obtain a rock, Xerion. "The rock on which heaven is built. In solid form it transmutes the elements. As a liquid it confers immortality." But there are 4 other alchemists, or scientists, or wizards . . . I don't know . . . that don't want him to succeed, so they trapped him in his own tower for all eternity. Well they've used the 4 elements to trap him inside, so he decides he has to look in to the future and find a way for the 4 elements to break him out. So of course where does his future look focus on? Why our team of heroes of course. So in order to get them to help, he has transported one of each of their loved ones back to him to hold as hostage. He's then sent his disciple into the future to convey a challenge to the elemental four. One that they can't take lightly, obviously, because the lives of four of their loved ones hang in the balance. So now they just have to decide how blindly they're going to step in to the abyss. This is a decent first chapter of this arc, by Mike Carey. I also like Scott Kolins artwork. He became on of my favorites when he was doing the Flash. But he's changed up his style a little for this book. But I still like it. So it looks like our quartet will be adding Time Travel to their resume pretty soon.
