Wolverine: First Class #10 - Marvel

I like this book. I wasn't sure that I would when it came out. It's got a different feel than X-Men: First Class, but . . that's ok. These stories seem to revolve around the time the Kitty was first joining the group. Logan is kind of her mentor and teacher, and this issue he takes her out into the woods to try to have her hone up on her survival skills. But the real point of the story is the band of Werewolves that seem to inhabit these woods. They're upset because a local chemical plant, Kodiak, is dumping their refuse into the river. The main component of which is silver. Which is deadly to thier kind. Logan comes into contact with them while he's waiting for Kitty to return. A woman in their ranks has feigned weakness and Logan rushes in to save the damsel in distress. However, when the rest of the pack shows up, she turns on him and marks him when she bites his shoulder. Kitty comes across one when she finds a boy by the river. She doesn't know that he's recently drunk the water and the silver content has reversed his change. She comes back to find Logan out of it, and the three of them go to the hospital. Fred Van Lente writes the series and Francis Portela does the art. I was particularly impressed with Francis' art. It looks really good. This book just kind of reminds me of the simpler Wolverine stories from when his series first came out, or even in the Marvel Comics Presents books. I also really like seeing Kitty and him back in action together. They make a pretty good team.
