the Flash #247 - DC

Yes, I'll admit that I'm thrilled to see that Barry's coming back. But, at the same time, I thought this was kind of sad, in that it's the last issue of Wally's solo career. I'm sure we'll be seeing him over in the JLA. And he's a pretty active participant in the Titans. But, he's a family man now. Personally, I think there's a lot of potential in the whole story with Linda, Iris and Jai. And I think that, really, they've just barely tapped in to it. But I guess the decision has been made. There's a Flash: Rebirth! story getting ready to come out, probably much in the same fashion as Hal's and Ollie's. And then, from what I understand, they'll be relaunching the Flash title with Barry as the main character. That should be great. But, I just didn't like the way they wrapped up this whole story with Zazzala. They also wrapped up the whole thing with Wally's power fluctuations. As it turns out Zazzala was using Iris to siphon off of her father's connection to the Speed Force. She was doing this by making her believe that she was actually Linda. However, because of that Speed Force connection, Wally is able to find Iris. When he does so, and she realizes that it's not really her mother, Wally gets all of his power back. And together the make Zazzala vibrate so fast that the power of gravity does the rest and she sinks into the Earth. It was all a little to neatly wrapped up for me. Wally even gets some help from some of his JLA and Titans buddies this issue, but . . they don't really do all that much. It's actually Wally and Iris who do most of the work. The issue ends with Linda being ok, and Wally making a decision . . . "I knew what I had to do. It was time to make a break from my superhero life. Time to get my family away from it for a while." I'm sad that Wally's gone, and I didn't really like the way it all ended. So, I don't have to much positive to say. This one was brought to us by Alan Burnett with a trio of artists . . . Carlo Barberi, J Calafiore and Andre Coelho. And a very nice cover by Brian Stelfreeze.

  1. I was actually kind of happy that things wrapped up as nicely as they did for poor Wally here. I was expecting the worst when I picked up this comic, you know, Linda dying, the kids dying, Wally losing his powers completely, something along those lines.

Granted, the story did wrap up rather neatly, but since this was the last issue of Wally's series, I was OK with that. I'd rather a neat ending as opposed to a whole bunch of dangling plotlines. Now I guess poor Wally fades away into the background of the DCU like Connor Hawke and Kyle Rayner...
