Justice Society of America #22 - DC

Well this issue finally wraps up the One World Under Gog story-line. I thought it was a fantastic arc. Geoff Johns really outdid himself on this one. Of course he did have the help of Alex Ross . . . who actually contributed about 6 pages of art at the end of the issue. As usual, Dale Eaglesham does the rest of the art for the book. It looks fantastic. He's really given this book his own feel. And, not only that, but . . we also get to see the final fate of Kingdom Come. Well . . I mean, the what happened after the bomb dropped back on Earth-22. First the JSA, on our Earth, finally comes together and take down Gog. Half of the team appreciated his gifts and what he was trying to do for the world, while the other half were skeptical. But when Gog announced what his payment would be . . their complete devotion and worship . . . well, the whole team came together then and decided that was too steep a price to pay. Even if it did mean losing the gifts that they'd been given. Superman and Starman take Gog's head, with his consciousness, out to the source wall. "To join the other gods from the Third World." Starman calls it "The retirement home for the old gods." Yeah, he lost his sanity when everything else went back to normal. But he does use his powers to send Superman back to his own Earth. He wants to know what happened after the bomb dropped. He goes back prepared for the worst, but finds out that there's still some of his friends left. We see him and his colleagues rebuild their Earth, paying homage to those that have been lost. And then we get glimpses of their future . . . 1 year, 10 years, 20 years, on and on up to 1000 years in their future. We see that their world is bright and full of life. They even develop their own Legion. The next generation of heroes. To me though . . what I got out of this story is that everybody wants something. Or they have something that they think they need. We may not always get what we want, or what we think we deserve, but . . we usually get what we really need. Even if we didn't know that we needed it. The trick is not to put blinders on focusing on that one thing. There's lots of wonders and opportunities out there but they don't always come from the direction were expecting. You have to keep your eyes open.
