Red Robin #4 - DC

I liked this book. The story is split between 2 different times in Tim's recent past. The one farther back shows us Tim's confrontation with Dick, I think, before he left on his quest to find Bruce. Dick understands his need for closure, but at the same time . . he wants to make sure that he's accepting the reality of the situation. But Tim is looking to Dick as a brother. He doesn't want help, he just wants understanding. "You called us equals, remember? If we really are equals, if we really are brothers . . then believe in me. I've earned it." Anyways, in the present, Tim is facing the reality of the situation he's facing in Baghdad. The various police forces have followed him, because of his theft at the museum. But he has compromised his identity because they see him as Alvin Draper. However, once again one of the 3 assassins that have been assigned to help him by Ra's al Ghul comes to his aid. Anyways, long story short . . Tim finds a archaeological cave dig in Baghdad. In it, etched on the wall is the bat-symbol. If you remember, on the final page of Final Crisis #7 we saw what looked like a bearded Bruce, from behind, kneeling in a cave and scratching something on a wall. Tim stares at it for an hour before he comes out of the cave. When he comes out, the group is quickly descended upon by someone calling himself the Widower. He quickly takes out all 3 of Ra's people, and then comes upon Tim. "You were not on my list, assassin. All the better . . a wild card." He says he's from the council of Spiders. As the issue ends, the assassins are dead, and Tim is lying in the desert bleeding out. But then, in the darkness, somebody calls to him . ."Did you find what you were looking for, Timothy? Timothy?" This issue is billed as the conclusion to the Grail story-line. But to me, it just leaves more questions. Is Tim dead? Who's that talking to him? Was Bruce really in that cave? Also we see this issue that Lucius Fox's daughter is looking for Tim. She shows up in Berlin trying to find out where he's heading. I thought it was an interesting issue. I think Tim is a fantastic character. The direction of this series, and his European adventure, really helps to shine the light on him as a solo character. I know. He's been solo in the past. But as Red Robin, he's really out there on his own. I mean, he's accepting help from Ra's. This issue was brought to us by Chris Yost and Ramon Bachs. I'm liking this series more and more with every issue.
