Ultimate Fantastic Four #58 - Marvel

This issue deals with the aftermath of the first issue of Ultimatum. We don't see Reed at all this issue. But in the Ultimatum book, he went to confront Namor. It didn't look like it went very well, so . . I'm sure we'll see what the story behind all of that is in one of these books. Also, we still don't know what happened to Johnny. We do know that Sue and Johnny's father was killed in the first wave . . literally . . of destruction. So Sue's mom shows up this issue to help when she finds out that Sue's in trouble. Apparently, when Sue used her powers to push the wave back into the ocean she over-taxed her body's limits and now she can't shut them off. For some reason we get a whole lot into Ben's background. We go all the way back to his birth. Although I don't really know why. Then we watch as he goes through school and he and Reed are BFF's all the way back to the second grade. That wasn't really an important part of the story, but at least I can understand why it was included. The birth thing . . just weird. Anyways, Ben ends up making a trip to Seattle to get Arthur Molekevic, the Moleman, to help out Sue. Right now Arthur and Sue's mom are the only 2 scientists that could even come close to understanding Sue's physiology. Arthur wants to use some Pym particles and do a 'Fantastic Voyage' type thing on Sue. It looks like all of this books are going to be intricately tied into the Ultimatum issues. That makes sense because with all of these characters there's no way they could fit everything into each of those issues. Joe Pokaski wrote this issue, but . . I can't really say anything about his story because I'm sure he's just following Jeph Loeb's lead from the Ultimatum book. I will say, some of the stuff with Sue is a little . . out there. Tyler Kirkham does the pencils again. He has a good style for an action-type book. Overall I enjoyed the book. I like the direct tie-in to Ultimatum, but . . there were a few leaps in logic this issue. Big leaps, actually. But we'll see how the story progresses.
