Avengers / Invaders #6 - Marvel / Dynamite Entertainment

I really like this book. I think the story is starting to drag a little slower that it needs to . . that's one of the downfalls of these 12 issue maxi-series . . but, it's not so bad that it's annoying. You just start to think . . as your reading it . . there's still 6 issues to go and we haven't made a whole lot of progress. Most of this issue is spent examining Jim Harper's feeling about the LMD's that he came into contact with while on the helicarrier. He is also an artificial life-form, his father created him. He's making the assumption that the LMD's are basically his father's research taken to the next level. Plus, he's been pulled right out of Germany, circa WWII, so he's seen the horrors that can be reaped upon a race in the name of genetic superiority. Basically he feels that he needs to fight for these LMD's rights. Meanwhile Toro is dealing with the knowledge that he was one of the first to die during the war, even though he has the same powers as the Human Torch, and the fact that none of the other Invaders were around when it happened. Also, Doctor Strange of the New Avengers, has come to the conclusion that this whole mess is the product of someones use of the Cosmic Cube. He assumes that it's the work of Paul Anselm, a soldier that also came back with the Invaders. He's been holed up with his older self ever since he got back. But, when the Doctor goes to investigate, he gets the feeling that it's still the cube, but the feelings or wishes that made it happen may be something on a bigger scale. I think that Alex Ross and Jim Krueger are doing an incredible job with this series. There's a lot to tackle here, and an awful lot of characters to deal with, but I think they're doing a fine job of keeping it all pretty balanced. I also think that Steve Sadowski has given this book a great feel with his pencils. He's not one of my favorite artists, but . . I think his style fits with this book perfectly. No, the only real problem I have with this book is paying $28 every issue. That's $3 for the book, and then $25 for the variant. By the time this series is over, I'll have paid $336 for the whole thing. That's a lot of scratch. And I'm only half-way through it.
