Fantastic Four #561 - Marvel

Well, this issue pretty much wraps up the Nu-world / Galactus Engine story-line. Well . . almost. We found out last issue that the Richard's new nanny wasn't actually Tabitha Deneuve, but Sue from the future. That wasn't a huge surprise. We kind of saw that one coming. However, this issue, we find out that she's actually the leader of these New Defenders. I understand that things are pretty grim in the future. I can't imagine that Sue would resort to these types of measures, unless they were absolutely necessary. But . . I find it hard to believe that she could justify, under any circumstances, bringing 8 billion people back from the future, to a world that's already on the bring of over-population. To her credit she's want to try to disperse them evenly across the globe. "Two billion maximum on each of the five major continents." But, can you imagine another 2 billion people being dropped into China or Japan? It's not a masterful plan by any accounts. However, having read the last 7 or 8 issues of this book, since Mark Millar took over . . and you can see the writing on the wall. At the very last minute, with the help of Alyssa because she wants to get back at her husband, the present day Susan has a plan. "Alyssa. It's me. Are you ready to drive that lying, cheating husband of yours our of his mind?" And together they transfer all 8 billion people to the very sparsely populated Nu-world. Again, not a shocker. I kind of saw that one coming too. But it was a neat idea. However, the result of their effort have left Galactus dead, Johnny barely able to stand up, and Doctor Doom seething in anger. As soon as he's free he proceeds to fry the future Sue to a crisp. Which leads to the next issue, the Funeral of Susan Richards. I think Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch have just done an incredible job with this series. Really, this is the perfect place for Mark too. I mean, he always has such incredible ideas that he puts into his stories. Where's a better place to do that, than here? But their time here is limited, I think. Mark and Bryan are listed on the issues up until 565, but . . after that . . who knows? It'd be nice to have them here longer, but . . it's probably pretty hard to chain down a talent like Mark. We better enjoy it while we can. This was a great issue.
