Trinity #21 - DC

This issue we finally find out what's happened to the evil trinity . . Le Fey, Enigma and Despero . . since they got what they wished for. I was a little confused at first. We see the 3 tyrants, and they all seem to be in agony. I thought it was because, maybe, the power they were receiving was to much for their systems to take. But then we get some background on each of them. Le Fey is pretty much who she says she is . . a bitter woman, who wanted to overthrow Camelot and then stomp on the ashes after she burnt it to the ground. Pretty much what we expected. However, Enigma isn't the villain he portrays himself as. He's from the anti-matter universe, the world of the Crime Syndicate. His name was Edward Nashton, and he called himself the Quizmaster. He created the Justice Underground, to stand up to the Crime Syndicate, and commit 'perverse acts of kindness'. But then the Crime Syndicate struck back and burned him . . half his face . . and his home and family. I think that his quest for power, no matter what he's told Le Fey, is to garner the power to go home and fix his world and bring his family back. I think that's why he got so mad when the Justice League went there and made things worse. He knew it was going to be a stretch to get it back, and he didn't want anyone mucking things up further. But the real subterfuge came from Despero. He isn't at all who he claims to be. He's in disguise, and is actually . . . Kanjar Ro. This may put a serious kink in Le Fey's plans. In the backup we see Firestorm's attempt to convince John Stewart of what's happened to the Earth. The problem is . . John appears to be having some serious difficulty with the mechanical thing that seems to be growing inside of him. We do learn a little bit about it this issue, "I . . absorbed it. Absorbed it into my ring. To save a world. But not . . our world. Now Qward either, so where . . . ?" So Firestorm may not have John's undivided attention. And, at the end, Jason and Gehenna are split out of their Firestorm matrix literally at the feel of the Justice Society International. Another fantastic effort by Kurt Busiek, Mark Bagley, Fabian Nicieza and Scott McDaniel. This book is really starting to hum along.
