Ultimate Fantastic Four #52 - Marvel

Ok. It looks like Thanos' master plan is going to be fulfilled. When Reed and the rest of the group were on Acheron, before, Thanos planted the idea of the cube in his mind. He didn't really know if he's succeed or not, but hey, he's got nothing to lose. But it turns out, he made the right choice because Reed did indeed recreate the cube. So now, Thanos has come for it. He took the Cube, which is currently holding most of Mid-Town in side of it, back to Acheron and demanded that Reed battle him for it. Without to much of an effort, Ben was taken out, Reed was killed and Thanos re-obtained his trinket. However, this issue, we find out a few things. First of all, Ben isn't dead. He was actually plucked from the scene by Atrea, Thanos' daughter. I guess she wanted to play with him, or keep him as a pet. I'm a little unclear as to her motives. But she's very powerful and she's not very happy when Ben refuses to be subservient. Meanwhile, Thanos has gone to Earth with the Cube, and a transformed Sue and Johnny, to remake the planet in his image. After some convincing, Atrea has taken Ben back to Acheron where they find Reed's body. After Atrea examines it, she alerts Ben "I can't say for sure whether your friend is dead . . because this isn't him." Right! So how is this group going to get out of this one? Mike Carey writes a fantastic story for this book. I like the way these story-arcs are tying together. Tyler Kirkman is the artist. He's ok, but . . nothing fantastic. Next issue will wrap up this story-line. So it should be an action-packed book. Overall I enjoyed it. I would like to see them get a different artist though. But that's just me.
