the Flash #238 - DC

Flash meets a new villain this issue. He calls himself Spin. We know that he's Mr Auerbach from the local TV station. But, nobody else does. Somehow he taps in to the power of whatever is on the conscious of the viewing public and can turn that anxiety into reality. The public currently is worried about an earthquake. One recently happened in Hub City, so now they're worried that the same could happen to them. Anyways, this Spin shows up at a local charity event, and causes a localized earthquake, because that's what has the viewer worried. Well Wally is more concerned about how he's going to pay his bills. He has been able to land a steady job, since his return, and the house bills are starting to add up. Also, being a hero 24/7 doesn't leave a lot of time for another career. Well, unfortunately, when he and Jay arrive to assist with the disaster, he's confronted by a news-person. In his frustration . . he let's his feelings known. "You want to know why I'm tense? This job doesn't pay a thing. That's why I'm tense." He wants to take it back, but, once it's out there, it's out there. And now the viewing public is concerned about . . the Flash. Later on, Spin draw him out to a public event, and in the course of the fight displays the public concern across his face-screen for Flash to see, "Super Speed - Super Greed". Next thing we know, the Flash blazes through the stand of the ball-field and takes everything of value from everyone's pockets and returns it to his home. Linda and the kids find Wally buried in his room under a mountain of wallets and cash and jewelry. It appears that Tom Peyer wants to keep Wally a more well-grounded hero. He doesn't want to give him the super-wealth or luxury or conveniences. I guess he's going to be the working class hero. But how does he tell his team-mates, in the JLA or Titans, "I can't help you guys today. I have to pull a double shift because we're getting in a shipment of new TV's." I'm not faulting the direction that Tom's taking this. I'm just interested to see how he works it all out. How Wally, and his family, find the balance. Freddie E Williams II is on board now as the regular penciller. I really like this character, and what these guys are doing with him so far.
