Superman / Batman Annual #2 - DC

I really liked this book. Scott Kolins does the art. He does the cover in the style that he created when he was on the Flash comic. But on the inside, he does more of his old style of art. It's really nice looking. Joe Kelly does the story. This one goes back to the beginning of the Superman / Batman team-up . . the World's Finest . . when they first learned about each other. There's a new villain her too . . . Socrates. No I don't think he's that Socrates. Anyways, he looks in to a person and gives them the opportunity to find out what they want to know most about themselves. Whether they want to or not. In Superman's case, he comes across him right after Batman has given him a verbal lashing and he's wondering if he'd be as much or a hero, or even a man, if he wasn't as "super". Needless to say . . this basically cripples him. He becomes . . normal. But, being the man he is . . the son of Jonathon and Martha Kent . . . he refuses to give up. And he goes to Batman for help. Not as Superman, but as Clark Kent. Batman gives him a little training, and creates the Supernova costume for him. And sends him out in the field. But this time Batman comes across Socrates. You know that mind-scape is just ripe for the picking. Batman's mentally all over the place, and he starts to go in to a stroke. Clark, seeing his friend in trouble, forgets about his own inadequacies and . . poof! . . his powers come back on. "Whatever chain of events Socrates sets in motion breaks, once his victims pass through their crucible. Any doubts I had . . about who I am disappeared when I saw you lying there." And thus a beautiful friendship was born. This is a fantastic series, and it just keeps getting better and better.
