the Brave and the Bold #11 - DC

I love it when comics make fun of themselves. On the cover here, Ultraman looks like he's about to bring a planet down on top of Superman, and the caption reads, "This is a Team-up?" Anyways, yes that is the team-up, but it's not as you would expect. First we have the Challengers, as they ended last issue, as Edwards Air-Force Base. They're trying to stop Megistus from obtaining Green Lantern's Lantern. He keeps it in a locker there. As if that would never be a problem. They find out that Megistus has already taken control of Rex Mason's body, and as Metamorpho there's not much they can do to stop him from getting what he wants. Meanwhile Ultraman has come looking for Superman because Mixyezpitelik, Ultraman's universe's version of Superman's Mxyzptlk, has tasked him with fixing a problem. That problem is also Megtistus. It appears that whatever he's planning is going to spill over in to the 5th dimension, and Mixyezpetelik can't abide that. So he wants them to fight together to stop Megistus. With the Imp's help, they figure out that it's actually within the sun. When Wonder Woman threw the Philosopher's Stone into the sun to get rid of it . . she was actually playing in to Megistus' hands. Now the problem is . . as they're approaching the sun, Megistus has tossed his newly acquired Lantern in to it. So now, the yellow sun from which they derive their powers, is turning green, while they're stuck half-way between Earth and it. This book is brought to us by Mark Waid and Jerry Ordway. While Jerry is a very adept illustrator, I will miss George Perez. But, I won't have to miss him for long. He's moving on to the Legion chapter of the Final Crisis storyline. He's going to be illustrating the Legion of 3 different worlds . . . or 3 different times . . . whatever. I'm sure it'll all be explained to us more as we get to that point. Anyways, next issue should wrap up this whole Megistus storyline . . for good or bad. This has been a fantastic series right from issue #1. I don't think the creative change hinders it at all.
