We see nothing of our stellar X-men team this issue. Instead we focus on Vulcan and Deathbird. We saw last issue that D'ken was still alive. Which we know Vulcan has sworn to kill. But, instead we see him and Deathbird standing near the balustrade next to D'ken as he address' the people. This issue explains what happened between Vulcan freeing Deathbird from her cell, and the unorthodox scene that ended last issue. After escaping the prison, and the planet, it seems that the two of them went out among the stars to vent off some steam. In doing so they became allies, teammates and lovers. Which is a feeling that Vulcan has never felt before. So, he's pretty much putty in her hands. Not to say that he doesn't still have strong feelings. But, she quells them down pretty fast. After feeding off each others emotions for a while, they end up at the hospice where D'ken is being held. It seems that the psychics that the chancellor gathered have helped to subside the storm inside D'ken's brain after exposure to the M'krann Crystal. But now, for some reason, the 3 hemisphere's of his brain are not communicating. So, while essentially he's cured, he can't awaken from his slumber. This is where Vulcan steps up and uses his powers to complete the synaptic process'. Essentially curing, and saving D'ken. After resting he confronts Vulcan. Who also confronts D'ken with the story of his birth. D'ken doesn't remember much, but, since he owes Vulcan a debt, and since there is an obscure law that says, " . . any child born in the high palace on Chandillar may rise to become royalty." So basically D'ken is offering Vulcan to join the Imperium, by marrying his sister. Which brings us around full circle to last issue when Darwin was looking through the glass, and was shocked to see not only D'ken alive, but Vulcan standing by his side. Great story by Ed Brubaker and pretty good art by Clayton Henry. This is part 9 of 12 of the Rise & Fall of the Shi'ar Empire. So we only have 3 issues to wrap it up. Which should result in a very eventful conclusion.
