I don't know if this book is actually set in the DC Universe. It could be. Maybe it's a story from . . . oh I don't know . . . 5 or 10 years ago. Or maybe it's SHAZAM!'s origin on a different earth. Not quite sure. All I know is that it doesn't fit in to the current continuity, as it stands. So, I'm sure there's some logical explanation. Guess we'll just have to wait and see, as we get further in to the mini-series, if they give us one or not. Then again, maybe they told Jeff Smith to have fun with it, do what he wants, and we'll sort it all out later. Nahh! Can't see that happening. But what a cool concept. Huh? Anyways, this is actually a pretty neat book. We get to see SHAZAM!'s origin redone, again. Although, every time they redo it . . . . . it pretty much looks the same. Well anyways, Billy seems younger this time. And SHAZAM! seems autonomous from Billy. Before, even when he was SHAZAM!, he was just a boy in a man's body. This actually makes more sense to me, that SHAZAM! is actually inhabiting Billy, and Billy is just the host. Especially in the realm of magic. There are a couple of little things in here, that are a little different than the normal subscribed origin. But right now they're just clues. We don't really know how they're going to shape up yet. But overall I think this issue is a good start. With Jeff Smith at the helm, we could go in any number of directions from here. I'm sure he won't change SHAZAM!'s story too much. But I'm sure there will be some tweaks here and there.
I spend a lot of time and money buying and reading comics. Most of the time I'm happy with my choices, sometimes not. I'm hoping, that with my reviews on what I've read, I might spare someone else dissapointment. I'll read anything, but I can't afford everything. If there's something you'd like for me to read, let me know. If you take the time to read this, please, take the time to let me know what you think. I may not agree with you, or you may not agree with me. But, so what. That's life.
