Spawn #164 - Image

Ok, the world is carrying on after it's been reconstructed. And Al is feeling pretty good about himself, and his role in it, right about now. Well that is until he's stopped in his tracks. He only wants to go straight to Wanda, but before he can, there's some stuff he's gotta see. A lot of repressed stuff. A lot of stuff that's not very pretty. Cyan, and his Grandma, see the good stuff in Al. They see how he's helped them and what he's brought to his life. Well . . . . . at least the good stuff. But Wanda . . . . . Wanda has a whole 'nother story to tell. Sure she loves Al. But . . . . she also remembers the abuse. She remembers flinching . . . . whenever he got angry. She remembers him being gone for weeks at a time, with no explanation offered when he returned. And she remembers the cold look in his eye, right before he killed their baby. That was right before his last trip. The one that she was going to leave him when he returned. The one he never returned from. Well . . . . at least not in the same form that he left. So all Al wanted to do was go home. Go home, after all the war and killing in his life. Well . . . he went home. But it wasn't to where he expected. He ended up in the only home he has anymore. The alleys. After all, "He is Al Simmons . . . . . the man who could save the world, but could not save himself . . ." So now that part of the Spawn legend is wrapped up. Starting with issue #166, we'll be going in an all new direction. It should be interesting. After all, it's taken us 164 issues to get this far.
