Another installment of my favorite western. Or at least, my favorite western for now. Maybe he's just my favorite anti-hero. I don't know. Anyways, Hex falls for the sly tongue of a lying woman. She's being chased by some men who claim to be her family, and husband. Hex doesn't really want to get caught up in the middle, because there's no money involved, so he gives her to them and sends them on their way. Well apparently she escapes, because she comes back to his encampment. She tells Hex stories about how they're all cannibals and that they're chasing them down to kill her. Or course the men come riding up again, and this time Hex tries to get her away from them. In the process he ends up killing them all. But then, when it's just the 2 of them, she tries to kill Hex. And she ends up dead. He goes back to try to find the rest of the family, which now consists of only Women and children, and he's convinced that they're all cannibals. But, every once in a while, even Hex can be wrong. He fell for the woman's story, and got everything all wrong. His guilt? "I got it wrong. It was a mistake . . . . I'm sorry." He gives the women all his money, and as he's riding off he says, " . . . preachers say ya created all'a us in yore image. Heh . . heh . . .heh. . . . . . . Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha,Ha,Ha,Ha." Awesome book. Love the character and the series.
