Detective #831 - DC

Another fantastic book by Paul Dini and Don Kramer. Also a fantastic cover by Simone Bianchi. And again, the colors on this book are out of this world. John Kalisz is the colorist, and I don't know what he's doing different, but the results are phenomenal. This issue is mostly about Harley Quinn. It's time for her appeal hearing again, but as in the past, she's denied. The difference this time though is that someone has taken it upon themselves to break her out. It turns out that Scar-face has plans for her. She pretends to go along, but then when she gets the chance she double crosses them and calls in the police and Batman. Batman's ready to take her down, but she's actually helping them. Unfortunately in the melee, Scarface gets away. Later we find out that the real reason she double crossed him is because she has a soft spot for Arnie Wesker, the original ventriloquist. Arnie was recently killed so Sugar has taken over his duties as the ventriloquist for Scarface. Harley didn't like this because Arnie was always nice to her at Arkham. "I just wanted to show a little respect for the guy. You know?" We learn this on the ride back to Arkham for Harley in the BatMobile. She went voluntarily. So since she helped Batman, Bruce pushes for another hearing for Harley, and this time he changes his vote and she will be released. Does this mean that she's on the side of the angels? I guess we'll have to wait and see. Overall though, this was a very nice book. All the creative talents involved, really outdid themselves.
