Superman #661 - DC

This book was a bit different. It features Wonder Woman, and a new villainess called Khryana. But . . . I don't really know if this is a future nemesis for Superman, or for Wonder Woman. I assume it's for the S-man, since she's introduced in his book. But . . . she really comes from Wonder Woman's history. So she's fit in perfect as a nemesis for the Amazon's. But we'll just have to wait and see. Basically, she's a girl from way back in the time of the Greek gods. She was supposedly the most beautiful woman in the land, but all she wanted was to be left alone. Man after man comes to her with gestures of romance. But repeatedly she turns them down. Finally Zeus himself comes, but when she turns him down like the other common males, it angers him so much that he curses her. She's to spend her time alone for all time, craving the touch of man, but never being able to keep it. Basically what happens is that whenever a man touches her, she begins to drain his life force from him. In doing so, it helps her live longer, and keeps her beautiful. So, even though she knows it's wrong, after all these years she doesn't want to give it up. Well she bumps in to Superman, literally, actually she bumps in to Clark, feels his immense life energy, and decides she wants to feed on him. In the battle that follows, basically she takes some of Wonder Womans life energies, which are based on magic, and then tries to take some more of Supermans, which are solar powered, and based on science, but the 2 don't mix, and she shorts herself out . . essentially. Interesting story by Kurt Busiek. Like I said, I'm not sure why an Amazon nemesis would be introduced in Superman, but we'll see what happens after this. Currently she's in the custody of the Science Police. Is this the beginning of the Science Police that we've always seen in the Legion mythos? Or just a coinkidink? Anyways, nice story, but I wasn't overly thrilled with the art. Richard Howell and Eduardo Barreto handle the chores, but a lot of it seemed very simplistic to me. But that's just me. Hopefully this isn't the new art team, and they're just filling in. Nice cover though.
