This is kind of a fill in issue. Last issue Clark, or rather Superman, was taken to the Phantom Zone. We see his face in the crystal as it flys through space. You know, like they did it in Smallville, and in the movie. Anyways, Jonathon and Martha are really worried about him, but to take their minds off of it, Jonathon tells Martha a story. Hence, the fill-in part. Anyways, they were supposed to be on a fishing trip, but Clark wanted to take his father to see his fortress. And from there, they decided to take a trip on a star-drive ship, to show his father the universe. In the process however, they came across an alien race that needed his help. They were in a red sun universe, so he wasn't at peak power, but he still did everything he could to help these creatures. It took every ounce of his energy to defeat the antagonist's, but he never let up until he was victorious. And though the battle had carried him far, and upon completion he didn't have the energy to return to his father, Jonathon used his son's coaching and got the ship to go to him. Thus, in the end, saving his son. "The moral of the story, Martha? Our son ain't to be underestimated no matter what the odds. As long as Clark's in the fight, he'll find a way to save us . . " For a fill-in issue it was ok. Dwayne McDuffie crafts a nice tale. The artwork however was by Renato Guedes, whom I'm not a big fan of. As anyone who read my reviews of the OMAC series knows. Don't get me wrong, it was decent. But definitely not my cup of tea. And I would definitely not like to see him as the regular artist in any Superman book.
