All I can say is . . . Where has Grant Morrison been all of Batman's life? Grant has taken years of stories . . stories told in the past, obscure things, unimportant things . . . and tied them all together. He's brought the Batman mytho's to a level they've never achieved before. Back in the 70's I wrote a letter to Batman wondering why more emphasis wasn't placed on the cast around Batman. Yes Batman was a strong character, but to achieve his full greatness and potential, he would have to realize that his legend wouldn't be written in the acts that he performed but those that he inspired in others. Now, with all the various Bat-titles, and characters, out there I truly think that we're starting to see the potential of that vision. But, Bruce Wayne will always remain the head of that family. The Matriarch. And now that his supporting cast has grown, both in numbers and strength, his are the stories upon which the rest of the castle is built. And his strength, both in purpose and character, is the basis and purpose for all of those around him. So what are the rest to do, or think, when Bruce seems to be on the edge at all times . . delicately balanced between observing . . and jumping. Even those remotely connected to him, as in Talia or Damian or even Merlyn, are affected by his actions and responses. And now . . now, to save the life of Jezebel Jet, he's crossed the line and allowed her to see the real "Bruce Wayne". "Oh my god. It all makes sense. Bruce Wayne is Batman!" And thus, next issue, begins . . . "The 6-part story that will change the legend of the Dark Knight forever . . . Batman RIP" By the way, Ryan Benjamin filled in on the pencils this issue. They were incredible. But don't worry, Tony Daniel still did the cover. These truly are some of the best Batman stories ever told. Right now this book is simply fantastic!
