X-Men - Emperor Vulcan #1 - Marvel

This issue picks up immediately after the Fall & Rise of the Shi'ar Empire story-line which ran in Uncanny for 12 issues. Well now . . . we're going to get 5 more chapters of it. The one part of the story that I do like, is that Havok is now the leader of the StarJammers. I think that's pretty cool. Anyways, Vulcan, or as I'm sure he'll soon be called Vul'cn, along with his wife Deathbird, are now in charge of the Shi'ar empire. But since Empress Lilandra and General Ka'ardum are leading the resistance, it's going to be an uphill battle for him. Although the Shi'ar are a race steeped in honor and loyalty, they also know that Vulcan is not a true Shi'ar. So while they will follow the Emporor, they also question him since he's not of their race. So between Lilandra, the General and the StarJammers, they've been out recruiting and turning alot of the Shi'ar forces over to the resistance. All they need is the outpost called Feather's Edge, and they'll have enough forces to make a legitimate stand. However, Vulcan has spies in the resistance so he knows whats going to be attempted and why. So, with the Armada, he meets them there to stop further infringement upon his resources. The problem is, there's another alien race out there that seems to have a big problem with the Shi'ar. They're called the Scy'ar Tal. They kind of look like a cross between the Shi'ar and Aliens. They have that hard shell exterior. You know, like and M&M. Anyways, there name, literally, in Shi'ar means "Death to the Shi'ar". And that's the name they've given their race. So . . . I think they feel pretty strong about it. Anyways, when they find out that the Shi'ar had a new Emperor, they decide to make their presence known. Which they also do at Feather's Edge. And they do it by attacking the Hammer, Vulcan's ship, and destroying it. With him and the Imperial Guard aboard. So is he destroyed? We'll have to wait until next issue to find out. But . . . somehow . . . since this mini is named after him, I doubt it. It's a pretty decent story by Christopher Yost. It's complicated. But when you're dealing with the Shi'ar, there's a lot of stuff going on. Paco Diaz does the art. It's actually very good. Billy Tan does the cover. But I think the interior art outshines his.
