Checkmate #18 - DC

This is the story that's going to lead in to Suicide Squad. But . . . since suicide squad is already started, I guess we'll have to pretend that we don't know how it's all going to turn out. It is interesting to see Amanda Waller play some of the greatest minds in the world though. She's got her team out there picking up potential team-mates. Can you call them that though if they're forced to join? Anyways she's got Bronze Tiger and Rick Flag, I think, in charge of most of it. But, since the mystery of Suicide Squad #1 is whether or not Rick Flag is still alive . . . . I guess that mystery is kind of moot. Anyways, they pick up Scandal this issue, but in the melee, one of her blades falls off. Actually it's shot off. But, since it's specific to the Savage family, it's not very hard for Checkmate, or more specifically the Thinker, to figure out where it came from. Another interesting part of this issue, is when the Martian Manhunter shows up. Don't really know what that's all about yet. But I guess we'll figure it out next issue. I don't really blame Greg Rucka for all this continuity mess. It's probably all part of trying to keep all these different stories and titles straight. And maybe Suicide Squad was already scheduled, and this book fell behind with the whole CheckOut story-line. Who knows? But I do like the stories that Greg Rucka is producing here. The continuity snafu is aggravating. But I'm sure it's very difficult to avoid these problems completely. I'm just glad it doesn't happen more than it does. Overall, a nice book though.
