Green Arrow : Year 1 #1 - DC

This was a pretty cool book. Of course we all know the origin of Green Arrow. But this book gives us a little more insight into what Oliver Queen was like, shortly before he began his new career. We see him as the millionaire playboy, and adrenalin junky. But then he makes the fateful decision, as with many millionaires, of giving the control of him money over to someone else. Whether it's a financial planner, or an accountant, or sometimes a family member, it always seems like it's the guys handling their money that bring them down. This one is his chauffeur, I think. He's investing 14 million of Ollie's money into some kind of resort in Fiji. At least that's what he's being told. But then once Ollie embarrasses himself at a charity fundraiser, he decides he needs to get away for a while, so he says he's going to go with the guy on his trip. The guy protests profusely, but, of course, you can't say no to the guy that pays your bills. So he waits until they're pretty far out to see, and then he makes his move on Ollie. Tells him what his plan was, and that he messed it up. But he wasn't actually the mastermind behind the whole thing. Someone else is pulling his strings, and he wants Ollie dead. But despite everything else, the guy is still loyal to his boss. So he can't put a bullet in his head. So instead? Instead he throws him overboard. And of course we all know where that's going to lead to. Andy Diggle writes this one. And Jock does the art and cover. These two guys are fantastic together. The look and feel of this book is like nothing else you've ever seen with Green Arrow. But that's ok. It's pretty cool actually. And I guess this one is coming out every 2 weeks, so it should be wrapped up pretty soon. Cool book. And Cool cover.
