New X-Men #40 - Marvel

Ok, first of all, I do like this story. It's a bit confusing. I'm not sure where we're going with it. I'm not sure about this whole Illyana Rasputin / Amanda Sefton thing. And I certainly don't know what Belasco is talking about because the New X-men didn't even know who Illyana was, let alone have anything to do with her. So I don't understand why he keeps saying he can smell her on them. Unless . . . she's been hiding in a different form. Maybe she didn't even know it. Maybe it was some kind of defense mechanism. Maybe I don't know what the hell I'm talking about and none of this is going to make sense until our author Chris Yost & Craig Kyle decide that it will make sense. But they've only got one issue to pull it all together. The only thing I know for sure is that Illyana is trying to take Megan's soul, since it's pure, to make a new soulsword. But her plan is thwarted. Santo's powers look like they've been changed. Victor's appearance is different. And Megan has a little mini soulsword now. And we still don't know why Belasco is so hellbent on taking it out on our team. Just a side note, the art sucks this issue. In the backup story, Endangered Species, Hank is returning from his quest to the High Evolutionary, with no answers. So now he's turning to Doctor Rao. She's the one that was in league with Ord when they were trying to make a cure for mutants. Ord's gone now. So she's got lots of samples and files that she happily turns over to Hank. She's a mutant geneticist. But since there's about to be no more mutants, her field is becoming obsolete. So she's returning to India. But before she leaves she does give him a little advice, "Sometimes no help is better than the wrong help."
