Black Canary #2 - DC

Fabulous book. Tony Bedard is the writer. And Paulo Siqueira is the artist. The first time I saw Paulo is in Birds of Prey. But I think his style has gotten even better since. I like that we're getting some of the background story on Green Arrow and Black Canary. We've seen an awful lot about their burgeoning relationship over the years. But, we've never really gotten to see some of their first JLA missions together. Their flirting and quips are hilarious. Dinah is hashing through all these old memories, because she's trying to decide if she's going to accept Ollie's offer of marriage. In the meantime, she's also made the commitment to take care of Sin. She tried last issue to put her in a normal school, but the first time some kid was mean to her . . . . well . . they're going to need therapy for a while. So, coincidentally, her ex-husband shows up and he offers to get her in to a private school that's supposed to be great with difficult children. Well of course it's not really coincidence. Merlyn is involved. And he wants Ollie and Dinah close to him. And he sees Sin as the new leader of the League of Assassins. Since Talia isn't doing so well. And Cassandra relinquished her post. So this issue ends with him abducting her from her school. Of course it's not that easy. She single-handed takes out the group of ninjas that have come for her. And then she takes out the cops that arrive at the scene. So while she's distraught, Merlyn, dressed as Ollie, drives up and offers to take her to Dinah. Why shouldn't she trust him? When she get in the car, he takes her out with a gas arrow. And then reveals his true identity. So I believe the Arrow clan is going to be in full payback mode next issue. I like that they're doing a Green Arrow Year 1 at the same time of this mini. Then we have the wedding specials. And I guess we'll have to wait to see what the future plans for this couple are after that. But they stopped the regular title in the middle of a fantastic run. So I hope they have some serious plans for these guys.
