Ghost Rider #13 - Marvel

At least in this issue, we actually had contact with the Hulk. Actually . . . repeated contact. Johnny Blaze has gone to try to take on the Hulk. He actually tries to talk some sense in to him first. I mean . . . if you were going to confront this guy, wouldn't you try to talk him down before engaging him? I would. But you just know that that's not going to work. He really does try everything he can think of. But with Johnny in control, the Rider just doesn't have enough raw power to deal with someone like the Hulk. And Johnny can't cut loose the way the Ghost Rider would be able to. But then the Hulk really takes him down. I mean he puts a beating on him. To the point that we don't know if he's coming back. Doctor Strange is watching the events, and he realizes that Johnny is like the safety that keeps the Riders limitless, almost godlike, powers in check. But when the Hulk knocks him out . . . . . " . .the safety's off!" He sends out a huge ball of hell-fire, and comes roaring out of the pit that the Hulk's knocked him in to. But with all this display of power . . . it barely makes the Hulk flinch. The Ghost Rider stares him down . . . and then he drives off. Why? "The Ghost Rider avenges only the innocent. Which we . . . . all of us . . . are not." And I believe that will be the last we see of the Hulk and the Ghost Rider facing each other. Nicely handled by Daniel Way. And of course Javier Saltares turns in some great art. It's just to bad the Mark Texiera isn't on board anymore. Oh well. Ce la vie. It's still a great book.
