Robin #163 - DC

Robin is one of my favorite characters. I jumped right on board when all the mini's came out all those years ago. I even got the box set that collects them. And there's something about Tim Drake that really makes this character seem all that much more likable. Maybe because he not as intense or melodramatic as Dick. Even though he's younger, he doesn't have as much angst. And he's definitely not as psychotic as Jason. But I really think Jason's problem was just that he felt that he had to prove himself to everybody. No matter what he had to do to do it. But Tim . . . is just a likable kid. Like this issue, all he wants to do is get a watch for Bruce, for Father's Day, to show his appreciation for everything he's done for him. Well . . . that and cook him supper. And it's really not like Bruce can't buy his own watch. But he wants to give him a token. But after buying it, it seems like one thing after another stops him from returning home. Finally, while in pursuit of a purse snatcher, he's comes across the Jury. A group of vigilantes that he thought the Veteran had taken down back in Bludhaven. Well, long story short, he doesn't agree with their extreme measures of vigilantism, so . . . they fight. Which holds Tim up even longer. Bruce and Alfred are back in the cave worried about him. It's not like him to be late, unless something has come up. Right when Bruce can't wait any longer, he shows up. Unfortunately, the watch came through in worse shape than him. Bruce asks him if he got the bad guys, then says " . . you came home safe. You made it a perfect father's day, Tim." And I think that's what I like about Tim so much to, is what he brings out in Bruce. Great story by Adam Beechen and Freddie E Williams II.
