Amazing Spider-man #541 - Marvel

What an amazing book. Of course it doesn't hurt that Spider-man is such an awesome character. And I really like to see him this focused. When he's this intense, it's fantastic. Now that he's after the Kingpin, he knows who his prey is, and he's completely driven. In this mode, Peter is more intense than any action star out there. It also doesn't hurt that J Michael Straczynski writes such an incredible story. That's what I like about this side of Peter also. The story is so full of emotion. You can just feel it coming off of the page. So the lackey that took out the shooter, is also working for the Kingpin. But . . . he's not directly involved with what happened to Aunt May. So he goes easy on him. Kind of. He doesn't hurt him. But he does use him to send a message to the rest of the criminal community. "Tell everyone . . . tell the people you work with . . . tell everyone in the whole wide world . . . that my family is off-limits. That nobody . . nobody . . touches them. For any reason. Ever! Tell them, make them understand . . . that anyone who tries moves to the bottom of the food chain . . . and becomes prey. And down here, in this food chain, the rats aren't the predators. The men with guns aren't the predators. IAM!!" Pretty strong words coming from our mild mannered friend. He also gets in a little time with Aunt May this issue. While there he decides to try to use his own blood to make her better. MJ helps him with a transfusion. He's hoping that his abilities will help heal her. But he barely gets that done, and he's off to see the Kingpin. On the final page, the Kingpin is walking through the courtyard of the cells, and Spider-man drops from the ceiling directly in front of him. "End of the road Fisk. You! Me! RIGHT NOW!" It's going to be a serious Rumble in the Jungle next issue. It looks like the gloves are off.
