Superman / Batman #36 - DC

Did anyone not see this one coming from a mile off? Lucius lets Magnus tryout his Metal Men as a security staff for WayneCorp. The same WayneCorp that Metallo, as we know was being controlled by Brainiac, broke in to try to steal what was left of the OMAC project. Well we all know Brainiac can control any kind of technology. So . . . . it didn't occur to anyone that he might take control of the Metal Men? Well . . . that's exactly what he does, and he goes straight for the OMAC tech. But, Superman shows up and tries to fight him. It's hard because he's moved himself in to an OMAC body. His reasoning is that he will take over the technology, infect the world, and thereby assume control. He even infects Magnus' assistant, Helen, to try to demoralize his team. Batman brings them out of their programming, basically, by scolding them. "Back Off! Doc told me Brainiac's programming wasn't that strong. Fight it! You want to be a part of the world, you want acceptance . . . prove it!" Which brings them out of their slump, and turns the tide against Brainiac. Then with Helen distracted, Batman shoots her with a dart that disrupts her programming, and uses her to take down Brainiac, or rather the OMAC. Next month, I think, is when we get to see the Metal Men in their own series again. I can't wait. This was a neat story by Mark Verheiden, you know Aliens, and Marc Guggenheim. And it had some really cool art by Pat Lee. I never thought I'd see someone like Pat Lee drawing Superman and Batman. It was different. But it worked. This was a fantastic book.
