Wolverine Origins #18 - Marvel

This issue deals with Logan's involvement with Captain America during WWII. They had originally met in Mandipoor, where Cap offered him the job of sidekick. But he was involved with something else, so he had to pass. Well now he's in Europe, with the Canadian military, and he's sent on a mission to rescue Cap, and the rest of his men, because their plane went down. After completing the mission, he tells Cap that he'd love to work with him. But Cap already has a comrade with Bucky. And Bucky seems to be taking it pretty seriously that someone is trying to move in on his gig. Though from the inferences in this issue, I kind of think Bucky's there more to spy on Cap for the Govt.. He also has missions on the side that Cap doesn't know about. Probably because they want to keep Cap "clean", so Bucky does the dirty work. But Logan definitely doesn't like the vibe that he's getting off him. It's nice to see Cap in his early days. When he really was wet behind the ears. And we never knew, until now, just how involved Logan was in all of that. This mission, for Cap, was to break up a German encampment. When he was victorious over their troops, a Major Hans Guettzer would give himself up to the Americans. This mission was really a set up. One they wanted to retrieve the Major without making it look like he had switched sides. And two, to show Caps men just how serious, smart and powerful he really was. Of course Cap didn't know any of this. But like I said, Bucky did, and he also had another mission on the side while Cap was busy. But all this doesn't sit right with Logan, so all it does is pique his curiosity. This is a fantastic book and series, by Daniel Way and Steve Dillon. The best Wolverine series, I think, to date.

  1. Wow, thanks! I do believe you're the first person who has actually "gotten" everything that was actually going on in the story. The fact that you actually liked it is icing on the cake. Happy Holidays, Daniel Way

P.s. Tried to send this via email but I couldn't figure out how--kinda net-tarded over here. -d.
