Superman #669 - DC

With this issue, we finally learn who the third Kryptonian is. It's a woman in northern California, near Ukiah, who goes by the name of Kristen Wells. Her actual Kryptonian name is Karsta Wor-ul. And she comes from a Krypton a generation or two older than the one Kal-el was born in to. She served in the stellar Navy, under Admiral Dru-zod. She mostly did peacekeeping mission on the outlying worlds. It was at the height of the Kryptonian Empire. She fills in Kal-el about how she basically defected when the Navy was abolished. She didn't agree with what was happening, so her and some of her fellow officers took off. Most of them didn't make it, but she did, and she eventually met up with Ro-kul. She said she had heard about Krypton's destruction, but it was years later. Her and Ro-kul had pretty much gone in to hiding, because of anti-Kryptonian sentiment. And also because a pirate by the name of Amalak was hunting them down. He ferreted them out one time, and ended up killing Ro-kul. And then Karsta Wor-ul really went in to hiding. She said she didn't see another Kryptonian for decades after that. And then she heard about Earth. She came not to meet Superman, she figured he was showy, loud and noticeable enough that if anyone came her looking for her, they would probably see him first. He would be her early warning system. So that guy that was watching all of this transpire from space? That would be Amalak. And after listening to them talk for a while, he decides to make his move, before either of them can go anywhere. Nice history there, weaved together by Kurt Busiek. I also really like Rick Leonardi's pencils on this issue. Next issue is going to be the blow-out finale. I can't wait.
