Batman: Battle for the Cowl #2 - DC

Tony Daniel is doing an incredible job with the scripts and art of this series. It's amazing that he's doing it all. So far we've found out that the first person to step up and assume the role is . . Jason Todd. He's even built his own Bat-cave under the city. The second one to try on the tights, Tim Drake, finds it after following Catwoman there. Jason's line to him is hilarious, "You look ridiculous in that get-up. Like a kid out for trick-or-treats." He does look kind of lanky and skinny, compared to Batman. But we knew all of this was going to happen. Gotham is falling into chaos, and no matter what Dick and Tim try to do to slow the ebb . . it's gradually sinking deeper and deeper. Because of that, Dick and Tim are beating themselves up over not being able to be more effective. So, sooner or later, they were going to turn to the one role that was effective . . Batman. Personally, I think it's only a matter of time before Dick puts on the cowl. And I think he's going to have Damian be his Robin. It'll be mostly out of necessity though because that's the only way he'll be able to keep an eye on him. But, what I didn't expect was the return of the Black Mask. He wants Gotham to burn, and then he'll pick up the pieces. He's slyly pitting Two-face and the Penguin against each other. Black Mask has effectively de-powered Two-face by stealing his entire weapons cache. He's also released all of the prisoners from Arkham. Well . . released my not be the right word. It's more like he's moved them from one prison to . . well . . his. They are now in his servitude. With their help, he made it look like the Penguin was the one that hit Two-face. So he's ready for war. The Penguin, however, knows that Two-face hasn't done anything, but . . he also knows he's in a weakened state right now. So what better time is there to strike. This is really turning into a heck of a story. I also enjoy all the various appendages of this series. They're interesting, and help to build the overall drama. So now the question remains . . just what will everyone's role be in the post-Batman Gotham? What masks will they wear, and what identities will they become? "The King is dead! Long live the King!"
