Green Arrow Year 1 #4 - DC

I just can't praise Andy Diggle enough. He is really putting together a fantastic story here. Like I've said, we all know this story. We all know how it turns out. But he's put such a spin on it . . . it's brilliant. Down to the smallest details. When he first landed he needed to get food. In order to do that, he had to hunt. No weapons in sight. Just a small burnt up village. But with a spring from a jeep, some bamboo and pigeon feathers . . . he constructed a bow and arrow. Anyways, last issue he found out he's really on an island that's nothing but a big opium farm. And . . Hackett. We find out that he was actually working for, or with, Chien Na Wei the whole time. It was all a set up. But after his fight with Hackett last issue, he was lying in the jungle passed out from the pain of his broken arm. One of the locals finds him, mends him, and then comes back day to day to feed and water him. She's telling some of the others about him and his exploits. They've taken to calling him auu lanu lau'ava, which simply means . . . . "Green Arrow". He heals, but now he's hooked on Opium. He tries to find his way back to his camp, but instead he finds his yacht which Hackett grounded on the beach. It's actually a blessing. He holes up in it for a few days and fights off his demons. When he finally comes out of his haze, he uses the provisions on board to get himself back to normal. He also finds the bow & arrow that he left there. It seems like it was a lifetime ago. But now . . . he's ready to take the fight to the aggressors. They're in some trouble now. Another good thing about this book is the art. It's done by Jock. I'm sure that's a surname. But who cares. I mean look at that cover. That's a picture that's suitable for framing. Fantastic! To bad this things only going to last 6 issues.
