Red Robin #5 - DC

There's a story that runs through this book, in the background, about an 8 year old girl that was killed in the Brazilian rain forest some 19 years ago. Apparently she ran into the woods to get away from some men that were chasing her. There she fell into a pit and was attacked by the Brazilian Wandering Spider. It's thought to be the deadliest spider in the world, and it's bite can be lethal to a grown man. This little girl, Vitoria, was bitten 319 times. I'm not sure if she died, but . . it did change her. Now whenever she touches someone, they die in her hands. I'm thinking that this Council of Spiders that seems to be hunting the League of Assassins, is somehow connected to this girl. Also, the one who came after Tim and his escorts last issue was named Widower. Anyways, this issue is spent bringing Tim and Pru back to health. Also Tam, Lucius Fox's daughter, has entered into the mix of things. Lucius sent her here to find Tim, but now she's in the middle of something that's bigger than all of them. Once recuperated, the White Ghost brings them and the rest of the Assassins together to inform them of Ra's orders. 'He's charged us with hunting down this council and ending their arrogance. You and Prudence are the only two people on this Earth who have direct knowledge of one of them. Ra's al Ghul wishes you to lead the League in this endeavor, Tim Drake.' Tim's reluctant, but he agrees because he wants to keep Pru and Tam safe. But . . I also think he has an alterior motive. Later on he's telling Tam, 'For a long time now, everything's gotten worse. I've gotten worse. But no more. No more compromise. The League of Assassins is the deadliest organization on the planet. Ra's al Ghul is one of the most powerful and dangerous men in the world. And I'm going to take them down. The Council, the League, all of them . . I'm going to take them down from the inside out.' Obviously Tim is not going to give up on Bruce, but . . it looks like he's found himself another mission. I think Tim is one of the best characters to come out of the Batman universe in quite a while. So far I've been happy with the way that Chris Yost has handled this series. I think he's doing a terrific job. I'm also happy with Ramon Bachs pencils. However, next issue we're switching artists. Marcus To will be taking over on interiors and exteriors. Plus . . Tim begins hunting Spiders.
