I spend a lot of time and money buying and reading comics. Most of the time I'm happy with my choices, sometimes not. I'm hoping, that with my reviews on what I've read, I might spare someone else dissapointment. I'll read anything, but I can't afford everything. If there's something you'd like for me to read, let me know. If you take the time to read this, please, take the time to let me know what you think. I may not agree with you, or you may not agree with me. But, so what. That's life.

the Mighty #9 - DC
Well Cole finally decides to make a move against Alpha One this issue. He's actually pretty smart about it, but . . it's hard to outrun a super-hero. In the end . . well . . let me tell you what happened first. As you know, hopefully, in the last issue Alpha One left Cole alone in his club-house, while he went out to fight some emergency or other out in the world. However, he also has to stop a Tsunami in Japan, so . . it takes him a little while to get back. So while he's gone, Cole decides he's going to do some fishing around and see what type of secrets Alpha One is keeping. As soon as he hacks into his computer, he comes across the nuclear weapon that Alpha One supposedly had detonated out in the upper atmosphere. He finds out though that he actually buried it under the pitchers mound at the local ballpark. I guess he decides to go get it and hopefully get it out before Alpha One realizes what he's done. Then we learn another little secret. The brand that was put into Cole's hand . . so that he could call Alpha One if needed . . it actually works both ways. Alpha One can also use it to track Cole. That's why he cut off Taylor Rhines' hand last issue. He's been keeping it on ice. So to throw off Alpha One, he heats up Taylor's hand in the microwave, while he uses some cold spray to neutralize his own. When Alpha One finally realizes that Cole's up to something, he goes to his apartment looking for him because that's the signal that he's receiving. When he realizes that he's been duped . . he is pissed! The next scene really tells a lot about this character. Alpha One zooms off to get Cole, and he flies straight to him . . straight through anything in his way . . buildings . . people . . whatever. He catches up with Cole and shoots him in the mouth with his laser eyes. I'm not exactly sure why, but next thing we know . . on the last page of the book . . Cole's driving his car over a cliff. I'm really at a lose to know where these guys relationship can go from here. Now that Cole knows he's keeping some secrets, and he's willing to do pretty much anything to maintain them. And Alpha One knows that Cole is going to keep digging until he finds out what he's up to. I can see only one way that this ends . . with Cole's death. I think Peter J Tomasi, Keith Champagne and Chris Samnee are doing a terrific job with this book. It isn't at all what I expected when I first picked it up. But . . that's a good thing. The last thing we need is another recycled super-hero book out there. And this is nothing like that. It's fresh and it's different. And so far through 9 issues, it's completely kept me guessing. And in the end . . that's all I ask for. If you haven't seen the book . . check out the TPB. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
