Blackest Night Batman #3 - DC

I really only have 1 question after reading this issue . . . whatever happened to Bruce's skull that the Black Hand, William, was licking back in issue #1? That's how issue #1 opened up, but we haven't seen anything else since. This issue is all about Dick and Tim dealing with the Black Ring controlled corpses of their deceased family members. But if Bruce was still around . . don't you think that he'd show up to torment the boys a bit, also? And I love the way they got out of this whole thing. Deadman, Boston Brand, has been helping them out through this whole thing. Dick asks Deadman to get someone who they think may be able to help . . Jason Blood. But when Jason won't talk to Deadman, or the guy he's inhabiting, Deadman tells him . .'Well, it's not you we want anyway. We were wondering if your buddy could come out to play. Hope you don't mind if I come in and get him?' So he jumps into Jason and triggers has transformation into Etrigan. He comes back to the graveyard to try to do some damage to the Black Lanterns, but at best he ends up being a stalling tactic. It is funny though to hear Boston complain about how he's trying to keep the 2 guys inside of him under control. That's when Dick gets an idea. Damian took Barbara and her dad back to the Wayne Foundation, for safe-keeping, so Dick asks him to send him a special gun he's got for this situation. It turns out to be, I think, one of Mr Freeze's guns. Dick puts him and Tim both on ice. And it appears that his instincts are correct. I don't think it's because they're frozen, but rather because their brains aren't functioning so there's no emotion to read. The Black Lanterns lose their focus and can't seem to find either one of them. After they leave, Boston brings them both back out of their icy graves. 'Those things up there need bodies. Our job's to see they don't find them. Now we take what we've learned and use it . . pass it on . . so we can fight them tomorrow.' It was an interesting issue. I liked it. I thought Peter J Tomasi did a great job with the story. My only complaint is that we aren't going to make much progress, story-wise, in any of these minis. How can they? All the main action and events are taking place in the Blackest Night mini . . or one of the Green Lantern books. However, it does seem that each of these series is providing the heroes with clues and tactics on how to fight this menace. So we are making progress . . just not very big leaps. And, like I said for GLC #41, it seems that most of the dialogue between the Black Lanterns and their intended victims can be dismissed as minutia. However, there are some secrets and hidden feelings, or emotions that are coming out into the open. Things that may have an affect on these characters later on. After all of this is over. Which in and of itself is pretty interesting . . when you think about it. Adrian Syaf does the art once again on this book. I gotta say . . this guys got talent. He's grown alot just through these 3 issues, and I think he's got some huge potential ahead of him. We're definitely going to see his work again. Overall it was a very enjoyable book.
