Uncanny X-Men First Class #2 - Marvel

This was an interesting book. It doesn't really appear to be aimed at the teen-aged audience, as the last First Class book was. I know we're going back in the X-Men's history, and these stories are taking us back to shortly after the team switched, but . . this just seemed like a story out of the regular X-Men book . . I'm sorry, Uncanny X-Men . . circa 1983, or so. Basically . . Kurt and Peter went to visit Attilan and the Inhumans. During there visit, the terragenesis ceremony is scheduled to take place. Kurt is overwhelmed by the spectacle, because to him . . it looks like they're forcing their teens to undergo a mutagenic process. To him it appears that the Inhumans view their young . . pre-terragenesis, as inferior. This infuriates him, and he disrupts their ceremony. Now he's being put on trial and faces death. Peter convinces Triton that they need to get ahold of their X-Men friends for support. Scott, Ororo and Banshee come rushing to their aid, but Jean joins up with then en-route. To me, that was their biggest mistake. Especially right now when she's more Phoenix than Jean . . she definitely doesn't have the emotions for diplomacy. Anyways, long story short . . Jean's temper disrupts the dialogue, a large fight ensues, and Gorgon in a fit of anger almost brings down the mountain on top of the city. It's only through their combined efforts that everyone is saved. It was an interesting, and exciting story, but . . rather predictable. It was ok. But, if you follow the X-Men, it was a story we've seen before . . or at least similar . . many times. I thought Scott Gray did a decent job with it. I also enjoyed Roger Cruz's art. I'm not sure how much they can do in this book that we haven't seen before. But . . maybe it's more for the 'newer' reader than us 'ol-timers'. However . . it's still the X-Men, so what are you gonna' do?
