Ultimatum - X-Men: Requiem #1 - Marvel

In this book . . what's left of the X-Men . . Bobby, Jean, Kitty and Rogue . . bury their teammates, and lay to rest the remainder of Charles' dream. As Bobby encases the school in ice, and then shatters it to the ground . . he says,"This was Xavier's home. It took him years to build. It takes me seconds to destroy. It isn't right. It's . . it's just not." However, in the middle of the process, Mystique, Sabretooth and Assemble show up. Basically . . they want to call a truce. Mystique realizes that there's not very many mutants left, and if they want to survive they should band together. Long story short . . what's left of our X-Men . . take them all out. With Cap showing up to give the final killing blow to Assemble. "I came to pay my respects." He then helps them finish the job. I'm not sure if they'll join the Avengers, or Cap, but . . it appears that they all go their separate ways. The X-Men . . at least in this continuity, are finished. And they went out with a wimper. In the back of the book, we get obits from all the various members that were lost during Ultimatum . . Hank, Allison, Kurt, Charles, the School, the Blob, Cain, Jamie, Elizabeth, Warren, Scott and James Howlett. I thought it was a decent book, and a nice way to wrap up the series. Aron E Coleite wrote it, with Ben Oliver on the art. We also got a fantastic cover by Mark Brooks. And with this . . the final ashes of the Ultimate Universe have been tossed to the wind. Who knew they'd find their final resting place in Westchester? We now have a clean slate, to begin anew . . . next week!
