Project Superpowers: Meet the Bad Guys #1 - Dynamite Entertainment

This issue introduces us to the first real villain in the . . um, I'm sorry . . what do I call this? The SuperPower Universe? The Dynamite Universe? The Alex Ross Universe? Well . . lets just say . . the project. Anyways, we meet the first real villain in the project, and again I have to ask . . why do bad girls look so good? So we find out that the Green Lama had a protege during the war. His name was Tsarong. Well . . I wouldn't exactly call him a sidekick because he thought of Jethro Dumont as his 'master'. I guess, indentured servant would be the right phrase. I don't know. It was a different time. Anyways, through the course of their adventures, Tsarong ends up dying while in service to the Lama. He was considered the patriarch of his family. Well . . come to find out, this girl that is Bloodlust is actually Tsarong's granddaughter. Not that that was a total surprise. By the time she reveals that, you kind of expect it. So she's vowed to kill the Lama, but first she has to attract his attention. So she goes to this environmental headquarters in California, and kills everyone in it. These people were so in tuned to the environment, and therefore the Lama, that their deaths . . "Your hate has reverberated straight through the soul of all things alive on this Earth." Which is heinous, but . . it was really just her calling card. She's pretty much kicking the crap out of him until finally he uses his teleportation powers and transports her to a deserted island, I assume, on the other side of the planet. He then uses every ounce of his power to bring all the slain people back. Hmm! I didn't know he could do that. It takes a lot out of him, and it takes him a couple of weeks to recuperate, but he's back by the end of the issue. Next issue we meet the Revolutionary, and find out his connection to the Fighting Yank. This was a pretty decent issue. A bit predictable, but . . it had a lot of action, and story. Alex Ross and Joe Casey wrote it. Jonathan Lau does the art. I thought the art looked pretty damn good. Probably the best I've seen in any of these books yet. I know there's a plethora of books designed to get the reader bought into this storyline, and these characters. But this is a pretty big project. There's a lot to swallow . . and read. It's almost overwhelming. I'm glad there's not more than 1 book a week coming out. Right now we're about a year and a half into it. We'll see if they can keep the momentum going.
