Lobo - Highway to Hell #2 - DC

I'm not sure what the point of this was. But . . then again . . maybe that was the point. In the Reign in Hell book we saw that Lobo was stuck in one of the deep pits. The real Lobo . . the original . . the one we've come to love and hate over the years. So I assumed that this book would be showing him on his way out . . or something. But now that I've read it, I'm not even sure that this story fits with that one. My only explanation is that this is how Lobo came to be stuck in Hell in the first place. But if that's not how they're connected, then . . they're not. In this story, one of Lobo's space dolphins gets killed and stuck to it's forehead, with a big 'ol knife, is a not that reads 'Call me BITCH! Love Satan . . . 1-666-CUN-HELL. Yes that's my real number.' Lobo's mad about his dolphin getting killed, so . . he goes to hell. Now, through most of this issue, he's dealing with a devil that's stuck itself in an 8 year old girl's body . . blue dress and pink ribbon included. Anyways, it looks like the devils whole purpose is to get Lobo here so that he can torment him through all eternity. He wants to break his will. But of course Lobo will never yield and no matter what the devil does to him . . he can regenerate. And he can't be killed. At least not permanently. So the devil can put him through this crap over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over again. My only question is . . the book ends with Lobo stuck in hell, it doesn't look like he's going to be able to get out, so . . what now? This is the end of the mini-series. So where do we go from here? I like this character, and he's a rare breed in that the writer can pretty much do what they want with him. I can't imagine that there's anything that's out-of-bounds. But still . . there should be a point. Or at least a beginning and resolution. Scott Ian writes the book, but the best thing about the whole story is Sam Keith's art. It's phenomenal. It's worth picking up the book for that alone. But . . I laughed a couple of times while reading this. So . . it was entertaining. Hopefully this will open up the door for some new books.
