Dark X-Men #2 - Marvel

I was thrilled last issue when I thought that X-Man was back. But . . we find out this issue that he's not really. He's trying to come back. But he seems to be lost, or caught up in the psychic plane . . or, maybe someplace even beyond that. When we last saw him, he was almost a god. But it looks like he's going to have to expel most of that power . . that energy, to release himself from wherever he's at. At the end of last issue, he showed himself to the Dark X-Men. Mystique seems to be caught in a Jean Grey identity . . probably something Nathan doesn't even realize that he's doing. And he immediately points out that Hank McCoy is not the Henry of this world. Also Omega and Mimic seem to have overloaded on his power. Anyways, he doesn't have enough energy to make the complete transformation, but does stick around long enough to give who he thinks is his mom, a message. 'It is the real me. I will make it back. But until I do . . don't trust . . ' Well this is just to much of an opportunity for Norman to pass up. So he instructs the team that he wants them to find out his next appearance, and capture him. He's to much of a threat to be on the team, but he wants to put him in the Omega Machine. Well, you just know right from the beginning that this isn't going to go well. Omega and Mimic are already having second thoughts about what they're doing here. But when they see what the HAMMER psi-division is doing to the people that it's assembled there . . they don't know up from down, and they feel like they're in hell. I'm not sure if Dr Jarl just didn't have enough information on what it was the X-Men wanted him to do, or Mystique and Norman seriously underestimated Nathan's powers, but . . when Dr Jarl uses the collective consciousness of all of the people that he's assembled, Nathan grabs ahold of that energy and uses it against them. Not only does he shut them all down, but by the time they figure out what he's done . . 'He seems to have used the contact with Jarl's brain to get up to speed on . . everything.' . . he now knows . . everything. Everything that has happened . . everything that they've been through . . every thought and misdeed that has fluttered through the minds of the people of the psi-division . . everything that HAMMER has done. He knows how the world has changed since he left. And . . he's not happy. 'What have they done? What have they done? What have YOU done?' It looks like Norman's going to get what he wants. I don't think he'll have any problem finding Nathan next issue. Paul Cornell wrote this issue, with Leonard Kirk on the art. We also got this beautiful Simone Bianchi cover. First of all I'm thrilled that Nathan is back. And, because of his traumatic 'rebirth', it's probably best that the first X-Men he face is this group. It'll be interesting to see if they all survive the experience.
