Wolverine Origins #42 - Marvel

Well . . Logan's begun his plan to try to take down Romulus. But . . he has to be crafty about it. Romulus has been manipulating him for god know how long. He can't imaging that there's any plan that he could come up with that Romulus wouldn't be able to anticipate. So . . he's enlisted outside help . . Bruce Banner, and his son Skaar. I believe he's got Bruce coming up with the plan for him . . how to pick away at the edges of Romulus' influence. Skaar has come along to do some of the 'dirty' work. He's also picked up Cloak's help during this, but . . I think he's around mostly for transportation. And some back-up. Anyways, Logan decides to strike at Romulus' Asian interests this issue. Specifically the 'working agreement' between Clan Yashida and the Hand. He comes in at just the right time to disrupt the association, and save the Silver Samurai face. Harada is not happy with the path Clan Yashida has chosen. Not only did he not agree to the collaboration, but . . his subordinates were getting ready to replace him as the leader, to better line thier own pockets. Of course there's a fight between Harada and Logan, but in the end I think the Samurai knows that he's owes Logan a debt of honor so he listens to his request. Cloak brings Logan the Muramasa blade, and as he stands with it in hand he asks Harada 'You know better than anybody what this is. An' what it can do. You ready to hear that favor now? Good. Show me how to use this thing.' I can't believe we're up to 42 issues of this series already. It's gone by quick. Mostly thanks to the incredible scripting job of Daniel Way. There's been many story-arcs throughout this book, but they've all flown seamlessly into one another. I like that we've finally 'seen' Romulus. But I don't think we've even begun to scratch the surface as to his capabilities, his plans or intentions. Supposedly this whole thing has been about 'grooming' his successor, but . . there's got to be more to it than that. And . . it hasn't really been asked yet, but . . is Romulus Logan's real father? At the very least, they've got to share some kind of DNA. Anyways, I think Daniel has done a great job of pulling us through this story. And even though, to us, it appears that Daniel's shown his cards . . I think we still have no idea what he's holding in his hand. Also . . nice artwork by Doug Braithwaite. I really like the feel that this book has had lately . . artistically. After 4 years I still look forward to this book every month.
