Strange Adventures #3 - DC

Well, it appears that when that whole thing went down with Synnar and the Weird at the end of the last series . . somehow their essence, their souls, got intertwined and mixed up. Synnar thought he was going to be resurrected as a being of pure energy . . ultimate power . . "One step closer to my challenging the supreme one!" But things don't always work out as planned. "My spirit obviously became intermingled with his. Chaos triumphed." So when Comet finds the Weird in his apartment, shortly after he's killed the Mortician and his henchmen, all of this is explained to him and Comet swiftly takes him out with a combination of fists and a psychic punch. Meanwhile, Adam Strange is looking into the missing stars, but comes across a cosmic entity that is obviously the Weird . . the eyes look the same. But I think the Weird is just as confused about his situation as Synnar. He doesn't seem to be acting rationally. However, back on New Rann, since Prince Gavyn is also questioning the missing stars, at least Sardath and Alanna are starting to believe Adam's stories now. He's gone to Hardcore Station to find Comet because he knows that he and the Weird are somehow connected. We also find out some more about Eye. It seems that she is also connected to Synnar. Maybe intimately. We don't know everything yet, but . . I have a feeling that it's all relevant. On the final page of the story Synarr comes to visit Comet again. This time in his own body. And he has a warning . . "If you do not aid your friend in his problem with the Weird, I can guarantee that your entire universe will be destroyed." I think he's talking about the Weird's voracious appetite. The star and planets that are disappearing? It appears that the Weird's new energy self is eating them. In the back-up story, Bizarro has also come to Hardcore Station. I'm really not sure how he's connected to this story, other than Synnar's statement that he is one of the Aberrant Six. And we still don't really know what that's all about. I think Jim Starlin is doing a fantastic job with these characters. He's been writing them, off and on now for a couple of years . . through a couple of different series. I like the way he's tying everything together in this little corner of the cosmos. These are the type of stories that Jim writes best. This time he's got Manuel Garcia doing the pencils, with Rafael Albuquerque on the back-up story. These are some DC characters that haven't really gotten the attention they deserve in quite a while. It's good to see them back in the spotlight again.
