I spend a lot of time and money buying and reading comics. Most of the time I'm happy with my choices, sometimes not. I'm hoping, that with my reviews on what I've read, I might spare someone else dissapointment. I'll read anything, but I can't afford everything. If there's something you'd like for me to read, let me know. If you take the time to read this, please, take the time to let me know what you think. I may not agree with you, or you may not agree with me. But, so what. That's life.

Checkmate #4 - DC
DC has entered back in to the Western genre with Loveless and Jonah Hex. Well, it has also entered the "Cloak and Dagger" spy thriller genre with Checkmate. Granted, they put their own little twist on it with the inclusion of Alan Scott, Mr. Terrific, Fire and Count Vertigo, but it's still a spy drama. Good for them. This appears to be a very well thought out title also. We have a structured parliment of power, and a lot of ground rules that we haven't learned completely yet. It's seems complicated, but, if they're going to do it, do it right. This issue we're dealing with Checkmate trying to get China to give them the vote they need for their U.N. sanction. Amanda Waller has a plan in place to try to force the issue. But, it ends up being Alan's steady hand that gets the job done. But, in doing so, he doesn't play political favorites, and ends up losing his position of power. I don't think he really cares about that, but he likes the check & balance system that his involvement provides. This is a great story, and there's lots of good character development. I liked the first run on this book, but, I don't think it was nearly as well, or thoroughly, thought out as this incarnation appears to be. Hopefully, with all the effort they're putting in to it, this series will be around for a long time to come. After all, somebody has to be around to thwart KOBRA.
