the Amazing Spider-man #602 - Marvel

First of all . . that's a beautiful cover of MJ by Adi Granov. It's almost as sexy as J Scott Campbell's last week. It looks like this story-arc will be written by Fred Van Lente with art, on this issue, by Barry Kitson. Anyways, unlike the Ultimate Universe, Peter, or rather Spider-man, is anything but loved in this New York City. He's wanted by the police . . hated by the Mayor . . and can't catch a break as far as finding steady work, a domicile or a girlfriend. In fact, last issue he mucked up so bad, when MJ showed up at Aunt May's reception, that he got drunk and slept with his new roommate Michelle. There's nothing like making matters even worse. Anyways, the police lay down a little trap for the 'ol web-slinger, but . . he's been in this situation a lot of times before. He's just catches a but . . literally . . and rides away from the scene. But he still needs a job. So . . he's going to use the pull of his friends, Glory Grant . . the Mayor's new press secretary, and hopefully some nepotism with his new brother-in-law to try to land a job on the Mayor's Photo-Unit. Unfortunately . . or just regular Spider-luck . . he doesn't even get a chance to start before he's taken out by the Chameleon. Apparently the Chameleon is planning to put NYC in a new grip of fear, and he thinks he can best accomplish that in the Mayor's office. He overheard the conversation between Pete and Jonah, and now he's abducted Pete so he can copy his looks, voice and mannerisms . . and blend right in . . right beside the Mayor. In another bit of Spider-luck, shortly after donning Pete's face, he also answers Pete's phone. It's MJ calling, apologizing about their missed opportunity and setting up a date for the future. Apparently the Chameleon is going to go ahead and meet up with her. If there's anybody that'll notice that this isn't the real Peter . . it's MJ. And if she thinks that Peter's been hurt, well . . I kind of feel sorry for the guy. You know what they say about the wrath of women. I thought this was a good issue. We got to see some of Peter's supporting cast . . including Harry. We haven't seen him in a couple issues. And, we got reintroduced to the new (?) improved (?) Chameleon. This book is really starting to hit it's groove. Finally!
