Noble Causes #40 - Image

Boy I'm batting a 1000 here. This is yet another book in my stack in which we've reached the final issue. What's up with that? I guess it doesn't say to much for my choice in books that so many of them have been cancelled of late. But this one? To me, I think Jay Faerber does a fantastic job with these character. But, as he states on the letters page, "Noble Causes was never a sales juggernaut, and spin-offs always sell less than the 'parent' book." However, despite that . . I always liked it. Jay has a way of writing his stories with just the right amount of super-hero glitz, and just the right amount of soap-opera drama. And the Noble family, was the perfect choice for this type of story. We start out this book knowing that it's the last issue. Jay says on the letters page, "That's it. I can't state it any more plainly." But yet he still leaves us with a fantastic cliffhanger. Last issue Gaia got out of jail. The first thing she did was go over to greet Doc, and plant a full lip-lock on him. All of this happened as Doc's current wife, Olympia, and the press corps look on. So, not only does Olympia have to see what happens, but then . . then she has to look at it over and over again as it shows up on the front page of every newspaper and magazine that she picks up. Gaia makes a play to get Doc back, but he tells her that he's not interested. However, when he goes home Olympia is packing her bags. She says she's going to give Doc some space until he can figure out who he loves more. On the final panel of the final page he makes a phone call . . "I've been doing a lot of thinking, and . . . . you're the one I want." The problem is . . . we don't know who he's talking to. It's almost laughable. Anyways, I really like this series. I thought Jay did a fantastic job with the story-lines. Also I thought Yildiray Cinar was improving every issue as an artist. It's really going to be a shame to see this one go. I guess I'll just have to follow Jay's work someplace else. Plus . . it looks like I'm going to need another Image book to pick up. Does anyone out there have any suggestion? Really . . I'm open to anything. Just let me know what you think I'd like. I'm willing to give almost anything a shot. Otherwise . . I'm down to Spawn as my last Image book. I'm all ears.

Noble Causes #39 - Image

How far behind are they on this book if the cover says 'Oct. 08'? That was almost 6 months ago. Was this a mistake, or was that when this book was supposed to come out? I'm just wondering. Anyways, this issue, Jae Faerber takes us back into the past and tells us the story of Celeste's and Colonel Comet's romance. It happened during the five year gap that took place between issues #31 & #32. Not literally, but . . the story jumped forward. Apparently there was some super-villain in the past , Epoch, that creates and then feeds off of time anomaly's. One was affecting the present and when Doc Noble and company went to investigate Celeste ended up getting sucked in. She got pulled back to somewhere in probably the late 40's to early 50's. That's where she met Comet. They ended up teaming up, fell in love, and then got married. It's all seems kind of 'wham-bam-thank you m'am' to me, but . . I guess that's just the kind of girl Celeste is. Anyways, she ends up spending almost 4 years there before Doc finally finds her. But eventually he does. She doesn't really want to leave but the displacement in time is starting to affect her body and the cellular level. Really, she has to leave . . or die. So, when she returns to the future, she finds Comet living in a nursing home and decides to take care of him herself. He's in his 80's or so, after-all. Later we find out that this whole story is being relayed to Hunter Blackthorne by her because she know that he was behind the woman who impersonated Amy Wells, and infiltrated their home. It seems that this woman, who was Epoch's hostage in the past, got sent to the present instead of her when Epoch was defeated. She blamed the Noble's for what happened to her and because of that . . . and Hunter's anger over Celeste killing his wife . . he ended up helping her. Basically she's trying to explain to him that what she did she did out of love. Much as what he did, traveling to a cross-reality to find another version of his wife, he also did out of love. And when she killed her, she did so because she begged her to do so. She was in a lot of pain and her transformations were out of control. She wants Hunter to back off, and he tells her he will do so. Shortly afterwards we see the Gaia Noble gets granted an early parole. Her first act upon release? To lay a lip-lock on Doc, right in front of Olympia. That should prove interesting next issue. Anyways, Yildiray Cinar is still the artist on this title. I think his stuff is getting better. In the flash-back scenes he uses a different style that's kind of reminiscent of the 'King'. A bit. Overall, I thought it was an interesting book. Really though, it's just a big soap-opera. But that's ok.

Noble Causes #38 - Image

I have to say, I'm a bit confused about a certain part of this story. I don't seem to remember when Celeste married Colonel Comet. But, I do remember some old coot changing bodies with Doc Noble. I don't remember them changing back, and it seems like it's all but been forgotten. I was thinking that the guy was Comet. I think I was getting confused because Gaia and Celeste look so much alike. So I guess I was thinking that Gaia had stayed with her husband even though he was in a different body. But, even if I misread that part, I still don't recall the whole thing with Celeste and Comet. She was married to Rusty before. And I can understand why that would be difficult. But, then to go to someone who's about 3 times her age? I'm not sure I follow. Which is the perfect segue for the story-line that begins at the end of this issue. It seems that Celeste is questioning their relationship also. Especially considering the recent incursion to their island by Surge's girlfriend. Somehow she's related to Comet, but . . he never had any children. And, he was an only child. So now Celeste wants to reexamine when they first met. She wants to go back to 1955. 1955? Now I'm really confused. Also this issue, Jay Faerber, clears up some of the story-lines swirling about Rusty right now. They include, Cosmic Rae, the wife of the helicopter pilot he killed when he went on his rampage, and his apparent lack of emotion. Is he turning into an actual robot . . . or is he just faking? This is one of my favorite books, just because of the sheer amount of drama and subtext that Jay writes into his stories. This is one of those books that definitely draws more upon the writing talent than the artistic draw. That's not to say I don't like Yildiray Cinar. He's improving every issue. But . . Jay is a master of his craft. He's definitely in my top 10 favorite authors. It's probably hard to find most of the back issues for this anymore. But, everything is put together in TPB. You should check 'em out if you get a chance. But be patient. It's an acquired taste.

Noble Causes #37 - Image

First of all, you should all know what a huge fan I am of Jay Faerber's stories. I think he's doing a fantastic job with this series. But, I'd also like to give some credit to Yildiray Cinar, the artist. I think he's really progressed rapidly, and is doing a great job with his art. But, obviously, that's why Jay's brought him on board. There's been, I think, 3 or 4 different artists throughout this series. Each one, I thought, when they came on board, were a little questionable with their talent. Not that they didn't have any, just that it was . . raw. I assume that they've all been new to the industry. However, all of them, over the course of time, really came to define this series and their particular story-arcs in it. It really shows Jay's nose for talent. This issue, the Nobles still find themselves reeling from the recent events with Surge and his new girlfriend. She's in custody, but there's still a question as to Slate's involvement in the other criminals, Bonechill and Crucible, escape from the island. He opens up to Zephyr, his wife, this issue. He tells her that while yes he was involved, it wasn't for the reasons Doc suggested. All he really wanted to do was protect Zephyr. Crucible was bragging about how easy it would be for him to get to her and kill her. Slate just thought that removing them from the premises was the best way to protect her. Invincible also shows up this issue. He's after Slate's sister, Dusk, for some crimes that she's wanted for back in Baltimore. And there's a development between Rusty and Cosmic Rae that won't be addressed until next issue. As you can see . . the comic is basically a super-powered soap-opera. Seriously! But that's why I like it so much. There's so many intertwining story-lines going on, that it's hard not to get wrapped up in the story and the characters. To me . . that's the sign of a great book. And I love this one. If you haven't been reading this one . . you should. It really grows on you fast.

Noble Causes #36 - Image

This is another book that I'm thrilled is back on the shelves again. It was on a short hiatus, but now it's back and pretty much up to full speed. But then I expected nothing less of Jay Faebrer. I really think he's put everything into this book. It really shows with the depth of characters that he has here. And the story-lines are as intricate and interesting as any out there. I also like his whole soap-opera theme to it. Vildiray Cinar is really coming along with his art. He's a fairly new artist . . and you can tell. But, he does show a whole lot of potential. Which has also been a theme of this book . . bringing out new artists and watching them grow over several story-lines. Anyways, the Noble family, on their private island, have finally figured out that Amy Wells isn't the person she's supposed to be. In fact the real Amy Wells is found dead when her body washes up on shore. All we know for sure is that somehow, someway, she's related to, or part of the family, of Colonel Comet. Somehow she's able to make his amulet's power work for her. It takes the combined might of the whole family to finally bring her down. But, even then, we still don't find out who she really is. But the good new is Frost finally comes out of it. It looks like he's past the worst. He comes to long enough to tell Surge that he forgives him. This is a fantastic book, all around. It gets a little complicated sometimes . . with all the soap-opera drama going on, but, at the same time, that's what makes it so interesting. I'm glad that it's back out of hiding and up on the shelves monthly where it needs to be.

Noble Causes #35 - Image

You know, sometimes when I'm reading this book I'm thinking, 'Why do the Noble's even need the Blackthorn's as a nemesis? Or . . any villain for that matter? When it comes down to it . . the things they fight for in life . . the things they try to achieve individually, or as a family . . in most cases, they are their own worst enemy.' There's just so much subterfuge, back-stabbing, and dissension within their own family . . inside their own little world, now that they live out on an island separated from the rest of the normal world . . not unlike the Titans sitting up on Mt. Olympus . . . that they really don't even need a rogue's gallery, or whatever, because most of their time could be spent cleaning up their own messes. In fact, in this story-arc, any villains that have become involved . . they've brought into the mix. In fact the biggest threat right now, Amy Wells, Surge's new girlfriend, they themselves invited out to the island to spend time with them. Since that fateful decision she's been leaving a path of destruction in her wake making it look like it's anyone else's fault but hers. Because of that, they had to abduct Bonechill to try to use his blood to help Frost. This time they go after Tank, and then Crucible, to try to figure out how they shut down their security system, why, and who initiated it. But really? This all comes down to the chaos, mistrust and dysfunctional nature of thier own family. And correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Colonel and Doc Noble switch bodies somehow, a couple of story-arc's ago? I'm wondering why they haven't fixed that, and, if so, how come the Colonel is acting like such a father-figure to everyone, when, obviously, he's not? I seem to remember some kind of agreement they came to about the family, until the situation can be fixed. Anyways, I guess my question is, when are we going to get in to that some more? As you can tell . . I love this book. Every issue I'm amazed by the talent of Jay Faerber. I also think that I'm actually coming around with Yildiary Cinar's art, also. We've always had relatively new artists on this book, and they've always, over time, made it their own. I feel that Yildiary has accomplished that already. I'm just thrilled that we're back on track after the short hiatus. Keep 'em comin'!

Noble Causes #34 - Image

Man! This book goes away for about 8 months, but when it comes back . . . it really comes back. Now we've had 3 issue in the last 8 weeks. I guess they were just saving them up to release them all at once. But that's ok . . at least we're getting some new stuff now. I'm not overly thrilled with the new artwork of Yildiray Cinar, but . . you know what? This series has never had a superstar on the art chores. But the artists they have had have all risen to the challenge. I'm sure after a couple of issue, Yildiray will have impressed his style onto this book, and we'll feel like he's truly a part of it. At least I hope so. I told you, I'm a 'glass half-full' kind of guy. Anyways, I don't understand the whole Egyptian god thing, in the beginning of this book, but, as per the norm, the action is only a couple of pages long, and the rest of the book is spent on character and story development. Personally, I like it better that way. I like the stories that seem like a soap-opera, and this book definitely falls into that category. This book really is a soap-opera, whose characters just happen to belong to a super-powered family. And right now that family's concerned because Surge's new girlfriend Amy, almost took out Frost last issue. I'm not sure who she's working for, but she does have an agenda. However, it appears that no one suspects her of anything yet. In the meantime, Doc, Surge and Olympia have gone to collect Bonechill, another temperature based meta, to try to do a blood-transfusion with Frost. They're hoping that the similarities will help to stabilize his condition. But the way they go about it . . isn't exactly above board. Personally I think they're crossing a line they won't be able to uncross. But . . we'll see. There's also a hint that Olympia's marriage to Doc may have been . . . arranged. By . . . Gaia?! As Arte Johnson used to say, "Very interesting". I'm glad this books back, and I'm glad it's got a full head of steam on it. I want to get back in to these character's lives.

Noble Causes #33 - Image

Whodathunkit? After waiting almost 8 months between issues #31 and #32, we get issue #33 about 3 weeks later. That's fantastic. Before I get in to the book, I'd like to point out 2 things in the back that I really liked. First, for lack of a letters page, Jay goes through and comments on all of his creators. I think that's fantastic. We always give credit to the writer and artist, but not very often do the inker, colorist or letterer get their deserved accolades. I give Jay incredible respect for taking the time to do that. Secondly, he starting a new feature, I'm sure it's on his web page, where he's going to be talking about the things that influenced him. Comics, media, movies, TV . . whatever. This issue he talks about the impact that New Teen Titans #25 had on him. I like hearing about what's been influential to others, especially when it's something that I liked just as much. If you have the chance, pick it up and read it. Or check out his website at www.jayfaerber.com. I'm sure you'll find lots there to read. Last issue Surge brought his new girl-friend, Amy, to Noble Island. We find out at the end that she's actually working for Crucible. He sends her there to cause some chaos, but after Frost reneges on his agreement with Crucible, he informs Amy that her new priority is to take out Frost. She doesn't go about it the way you think. What she does is go in to Frost's room, and when Surge comes in she acts like he's attacking her. There's a big fight between Surge and Frost. Then Amy fire's some kind of weapon at him that leaves him lying on the ground, in a puddle, looking like he's been dehydrated . . like beef jerky or something. Needless to say . . the story is to be continued. This is a great series. I love everything that Jay's done with it so far, and I'm sure that it'll continue in to greatness. Get it . . if you aren't!

Noble Causes #32 - Image

I have to say, I was a little worried about reading this issue. It has, after all, been about 8 months since the last issue, #31, came out. I really thought I was going to be lost. But this story, actually, takes place about 5 years after the ending of the last one. Jay Faerber has really set this up as a jumping on point for new readers. Basically, you could come in with this story, not having read anything in the past. In fact . . it may be better because you wouldn't be allowing any preconceived notions, or relationships to cloud your vision when you're trying to soak in this new story. But . . it couldn't hurt either. I will say, however, that I was excited to see the book back in the rotation again, when I got to the shop. I've been a fan of this book ever since it's first mini-series. I'm glad that Jay's getting it back out on a regular schedule again. In Jay's usual fashion, he gives us just enough information this issue to pique our curiosity, but not enough to spoil things yet. There's a whole lot of "What the f#$@!?" moments in here. He's got new heroes and new villains. And, right off the bat, someone isn't whom they appear to be. You'd think the Nobles would be used to that. Or . . they'd at least have a better screening process. If Gaia was still around, she would've been all over it. Even if you've never picked up this book before . . now is the perfect time to jump on board. Even if you don't know all the intricacies of the relationships . . or the family unit . . you can still appreciate Jay's fantastic writing and handling of various character's personalities. He's an absolute master of his craft. With the new story-line, it looks like we're getting another new penciller. This issues art is by Yildiray Cinar. I assume this is a guy . . but I've been wrong before, but I have to say for the first time out, he drew a pretty good issue. I wasn't sure at first, but, by the end, the style fit perfectly with the book. I can't wait to get this book back in my regular rotation again.

Noble Causes #31 - Image

As in any soap-opera . . someone has a secret. A secret that they hope no-one else will ever find out about. A secret so dire . . that it could literally tear their family apart. Well that person . . in this soap-opera . . is Gaia. Of course, we all knew the secret. But no one in the family did. But now . . . they do. And it literally rips their family and home apart. Also the worst part about a secret, is that it makes everybody suspicious of the person's previous actions and intentions also. And anything else that has happened that was unexplainable, is also brought out in to the open, with due suspicion cast upon the liar. Gaia is so distraught that she has been found out that first she literally destroys there mansion. Next she holds a press conference and admits her faults, and claims sole responsibility for her actions and outcome. She then lets herself be taken in to custody. She gives the warden, and the guards, strict orders that she is never to have any visitors . . . no matter who . . . ever! So now, and I guess in future issues, Doc and the rest of his family, are going to have to reinvent themselves. I mean, how much of their current life did they really earn, and how much of it was manipulated by Gaia? Plus they're literally going to have to start from scratch. But that's ok. This is where the story could really start to get interesting. And with Jay Faerber at the helm, I think it'll do just that. Fantastic series.

Noble Causes #30 - Image

There is just so much happening in one of these books, I don't even know where to start. If you are not picking up this book . . . you should be. It is fantastic. This book is probably the closest thing to a soap-opera there is out there. Jay Faerber has really built up a fantastic cast of characters. We have the Nobles, the good guys, and the Blackthornes, the bad guys. Although sometimes the lines can be blurred a bit. Like the cover says, "Sex, Secrets and Super-Powers". This book has all of it. In case you haven't noticed, I'm really trying to avoid giving away anything to do with the story. I like this book so much, that I think people should get out there and buy it. Heck, go to E-bay and find the back issues if you have to. This book is worth it. There were 3 or 4 mini-series, and then this continuous one. Or, if you prefer, everything to date, I think, is out in TPB form. And you can find those on E-bay too. So what I'm saying here is, pick this book up, hold it in your hands, and read it cover to cover. You won't regret it.

Noble Causes #29 - Image

Dawn and Celeste are no longer an item. I think. I mean, Celeste killed Dawn's mother. And Dawn showed up shortly thereafter. . . . so . . . I'm thinking maybe . . . they won't be hooking up any more. True . . Kitty begged Celeste to kill her. But . . . I'm not sure Celeste is going to be able to convince Dawn of that. On yeah . . . and during the fight . . . Dawn let it slip that the Blackthornes had given Zephyr the same virus as Kitty's . . . hoping that Doc would develop an antidote. Celeste wasn't very happy about that. But what she doesn't know . . . is that it was Slate that gave it to her, because he and Zephyr have developed a friendship. During the funeral, Celeste shows up to pay her condolences, but, in typical "super-hero style drama" a battle ensues. The rest of the Noble clan is soon there, and then it's just a free-for-all between both families. Zephyr and Slate decide that they have to join the battle, but they're going to try to control the casualties. Then, to everyone's surprise, it's Race that stops the fight. "This all started when Pierce died, and now Mrs. Blackthorne's death has only ramped things up. Everyone just listen. I have a way to fix all of this. All of it. I can bring your wife and son back." He wants to use Doc's "reality-shifter" to let Hunter go to another dimension and look for another Kitty and Pierce to bring back with him. Much in the same way that Liz came to them. So with a little discussion, Hunter is off to look for his wife and son. "Noble, for a long time, I held your son responsible for Pierce's death. Now I hold him responsible for setting things right." Great story. Definitely a super-hero soap-opera. Like the cover says, "Sex, Secrets, and Super Powers." I wasn't to thrilled with the fill in artist this issue. But I still love this book. Jay Faerber definitely has me hooked.

Noble Causes #28 - Image

This book is awesome. I love Jae Faerber's story telling skills. This is Bobby and Zephyr find out each other's secrets. Actually Bobby found out last issue, when he came in on Zephyr's unconscious body in her apartment. He took her to the Noble house, so Doc could look at her. This time he's come back to her to ask for her help in curing his mother. Actually his father has exhausted all his mystical ideas, and he thinks that the only chance they have of curing her, is Doc Noble. So Bobby has come to her to ask her to help him convince Doc to do that. Zephyr knows that he won't budge, so they come up with a plan. What would Doc do if it was one of his own family that needed a cure? So Bobby gives Zephyr some of the serum. Doc works frantically, and eventually does find a cure. But not before Bobby's mom transforms and starts roaming the city again. This time Celeste is out jogging and hears the screams of the person she is attacking. They engage in battle, and then Kitty transforms back in to her human form. She begs Celeste to kill her. Celeste doesn't want to, but then Kitty fills her in on the whole story. So then Celeste agrees. She hesitates a bit, but then uses her powers to blow her head off. But this happens, just as Zephyr finds them, because she wants to give Kitty the cure. Also Rusty, while sitting in jail, has decided to hire an outside detective, to find out what exactly is going on with his girlfriend, Cosmic Rae. "I know it sounds tough, but I'll make it easy for you. I'll tell you where to start . . . . with my family." This is a soap-opera in the true sense of the word. This is one fantastic book.

Noble Causes #27 - Image

We get away from the Nobles, a little, this issue. And spend some time with the Blackthornes. Kitty has broken free of her cage, in the basement, and is out on the town. The only problem is, she's a werewolf. Krennick has been following her for awhile. Although, he doesn't know who she really is. All he knows is that she's a monster that's been leaving a trail of bodies for months. This night he finally catches up to it, but he's really no match for her. She beats the crap out of him. Plus, after seeing the attack, we have to ask ourselves, is he infected? And if so, what kind of changes will that make in him? Anyways, the next day, Hunter goes out looking for her, and it pretty much takes the whole family to bring her down. He realizes that the elixir that he's been giving her, isn't helping her anymore, so he's going to call on the only person that he can think of that may be able to help her, Doc Noble. Of course they can't just knock on the door and ask, so Slate's decided that he's going to abduct Zephyr, since they're kind of friends now. But she doesn't know who he really is. But then there's other things going on too. Liz still hasn't regained her memory, partly because Gaia is giving her something to stop that. She doesn't want anyone to know that she loosed the monster the other day, that killed 7 people. She was trying to garner some good press coverage for the family. And Liz saw her creating the monster. Then we got Rusty, who's still in prison, hiring a private investigator to try to find Rae. He's certain that she was abducted and replaced with a robot. It's never occurred to him that she's been a robot all along. Plus we have the friendship between Liz and Zephyr. Zephyr is a loose spirit, and she see's Liz as someone she can talk to. Also she has a more objective opinion, since she's from the outside. I don't know about you, but this sound like the plot lines, almost, for any night-time soap opera. Seriously, if they can make Heroes a show, why not this one? Not that that will ever happen, but, my point is, that this book really draws you in because of the plethora of characters. Which is really what Jay Faerber books are really all about. Not so much the superheroes, as the people who happen to be them. Fantastic book. But you already know that. So . . . just keep it up.

Noble Causes #26 - Image

Well, since she jumped back in time, Liz seems to have lost her memories. Well . . . . more specifically, she's lost all of her memories since the time she's joined the Noble family. For Race, she was only gone a few seconds. But for Liz, it was days, or maybe even weeks. She went years and years in to the future. Maybe that's where part of her amnesia comes. Because she can't really know what's going to happen. So Doc is looking in to the gauntlets she was wearing when she returned. We know they're some kind of time travel device that the Doc of the future designed, but he doesn't. Gaia is up to something. She's got some kind of mystical Golem she's conjured up in the garden. And later on it'll wreak some havoc in town. Liz catches her, but she doesn't really know what's going on. Meanwhile Zephyr and Slate are still hanging out. Even though they don't really know who the other is. But Slate's about to find out, because after the fight with Gaia's golem, he finds Zephyr passed out in his apartment. And it seems to me that Gaia created all this, just to get the Noble name back out in the media. But Slate kind of took away from some of their attention. Which he gets scolded for by his father later on. I really like this series. Jay does a great job with the stories, and the art work is getting better. I just have a hard time finding pictures of the covers. But, that's what I use my www.milehighcomics.com resource for. Thanks guys.

Noble Causes #25 - Image

I'd love to show you a picture of the cover, but I can't. I can't seem to find one anywhere on the web. But, who knows? It'll show up sooner of later. When it does, I'll post it for you. Anyways, I really love this book. And this is the double sized 25th issue. $5 for a monthly comic. Say it isn't so! I remember how traumatic it was when they went up to 60 and then 75 cents. But now $5? I knew it was inevitable, but I never thought I'd see it. Anyways, Jay Faerber does write a good story. So I guess he deserves compensation for his hard work. But $5? Sorry . . . . . . I'll quit. Anyways, we pick up where we left off last issue with Liz jumping in the way of the Tachyon's the professor are shooting at Race. She really does love her husband. Of course they hit her, and then she's out of the gate. She starts bouncing around through time, but always staying connected to the Noble family. Eventually she hits a point where Doc can come up with a meter to help regulate the energy, and hopefully help her direct it so she can get back home. But, she has to bounce forward 2 or 3 more times, until she can get to a point where Doc's little invention can be adjusted the right way, and it's actually useful. In this time, she learns a lot about the future of the Noble family, and also a little unexpected possible future of her own. But the one thing she finds out is that in all the instances, she has played a big part in making the Noble family who they are at that time. So hopefully this will help alleviate some of her insecurities. Anyways, she almost gets home, but gets caught up in a big fight at the Noble estate. She gets hit with some kind of energy beam, and it sends her right back to the moment that she left. As far as Race and Celeste are concerned, she never left. But, she does have the costume on that they gave her in the future, and she's still wearing the tachyon meter. They get her into a hospital to help her recover. Who knows how long she was out. But when she does come to, she can't remember anyone or anything. I also like Jay's cliffhanger endings. The art in this book was pretty decent also. Jon Bosco, whom I still think is improving, did the opening and closing chapters. But they had a different artist for every time zone that Liz ended up in. I really like this book, and I definitely recommend it to everyone.

Noble Causes #24 - Image

Welcome to another installment of "As the Pages Turn". Here is the mryiad of plots that we have going on under these covers. Celeste is trying to help Race get his powers back. To do that he has taken him to Dr. Wiseman for some experimental surgery. Rusty's in jail, for blowing up the chopper last issue, and killing the people inside. Gaia is trying to do what she can to get him bailed out. Rusty was trying to find out who replaced his girlfriend, Rae, with a robot. Celesta and Dawn are having an affair. And I'll tell you what, Celeste is smokin' in her bra and skirt. Race and Liz are having marital problems, because Race won't confide in her about what he's up to with Celeste. Also because he hasn't really communicated his feelings, or pretty much anything, to her since he lost his powers. Gaia finds out that Rae has always been a robot. Doc built her for Rusty, because he was becoming so emotionally detached from everyone, since his accident that put him in his robot body. But now he has to figure out, one if he can rebuild her, and two if he should. No one has know about this except for him, until now. Race undergoes the experiment to try to give him his powers back, and Liz goes along for emotional support. However, something goes wrong, and it looks as if he could be harmed. Liz goes in to pull him out, but she can't get herself out in time. It looks like the ray, and the experiment, has just switched hosts. And this, was just what we saw of all these plots in this issue. We still have another dozen or so characters that we haven't even touched base with in this issue. Jay Faerber has a very tightly woven little soap opera going on here. And Jon Bosco's artwork is getting better with every issue. This is a very fun read, and very cool. It's hard not to get caught up in the plot of the Noble's.

Noble Causes #23 - Image

Jay Faerber has truly created a super-hero soap opera here. We start out this issue with Race nailing his wife, Liz, from behind on the kitchen table. He seems to have an unusual amount of pent up frustration, so he's banging her pretty hard. Zephyr is at the police station trying to figure out who gave Rusty the video tape. But no go yet. At least not untile they get the results back from a "weird piece of hair" they found on it. Meanwhile Rusty is at the prison trying to get in to talk to Jason Rudy. He thinks that he built the robot of Rae, who has been posing as his girlfriend for the last couple of months. We then go downtown to see Race and Celeste together. Liz is in the lobby signing autographs, but she is upstaged when they come walking through the door. Celeste is trying to put race in contact with someone who can give him his powers back. Rusty has shown up at the court house, where Jason Rudy is, but there is also an army of policemen ready to stop him. We then see Doc Noble in his lab trying to go over the pieces of the Rae robot to try to figure out who made it and why. He's feeling frustrated because if it was his former student, Jason, his designs are a lot more advanced than even his own. He's also frustrated because he can't figure out how to give Race his powers back. Meanwhile, Rusty's battle has just escalated because the police have called in Slate, Dusk and Dawn Blackthorne. In the melee' that ensues, a piece of a car, thrown by Rusty at Dawn misses but instead strikes the TV chopper flying overhead. The chopper comes down, and apparently all 3 occupants are killed. Rusty is then arrested. Wow!! Lots of stuff. Oh, I forgot, Race tells Celeste that he knows she's sleeping with Dawn. Honestly, what more could you want. The artwork of Jon Bosco is getting better too. It has a Phillip Tan kind of feel to it.

Noble Causes #22 - Image

This book just pulls me in every month. I've said it before, but it's really like a big soap opera. A superpowered hyperactive soap opera. But still, none the less, a soap opera.Rusty and Zephyr are beating up frost, because Rusty got a video tape showing Frost, with Rae and Zephyr on the roof of the Winterborne institute, the night the device was stolen that was used to steel Race's powers. Rusty's also a little peeved because last issue he found out that his girlfriend was a robot. So he tore her apart. Literally. Then we have Gaia Noble and Dawn Blackthorne flying throught the night sky talking. Obviously they're from rival families. So anyways, they're talking and when Gaia says something that upsets Dawn, she ends up swooping in for a kiss to calm her down. Next we have Liz, Race's wife, talking to Doc, who is examining the pieces of Rae, asking for advice on how to handle Race. He seems withdrawn and without an identity since he lost his powers. And finally we have Race and Gaia talking to Dr. Eichhorn, at the Winterborne institute, about how to get Race's powers back. Dr. Eichhorn is the one who made the device that took Race's powers away. He says the device won't work like that. But Gaia has an idea and asks the doctors to do the experimental gene therapy they did on her, that gave her her powers, on Race. Oh, and Frost asks Race the question of the hour, "So who sent the tape to you? And why?" Jae Faerber really has a handle on theses characters. And the relatively new artist of Jon Bosco, is getting better with every issue.
